MWD Software Suite
Installing MWD 1. On the laptop, in Windows, click the Start button and type in
Software Suite “useraccountcontrolsettings” and press Enter.
2. In the User Account Control Settings window, slide the slider to the
bottom, click OK and restart Windows.
3. Copy the MWD Software Suite installer (from your thumbdrive, or from
the internet) onto your desktop.
4. Double-click the MWD Software Suite installer and, in the Wizard, click
Next → Next → Install, wait for Java to complete installing, and click
Close.
5. In the Wizard, click Next → I Accept The Terms In The License
Agreement → Next → Install, wait for the software to complete installing,
and click Finish.
Uninstalling MWD 1. On the laptop, in Windows, click the Start button and type in “appwiz.cpl”
Software Suite and press Enter.
2. In the list, select Bench Tree MWD Software Suite, click Uninstall and
wait for the process to complete.
3. In the list, select Java™ 6 Update 43, click Uninstall and wait for the
process to complete.
4. Restart Windows.

Launching MWD 1. Make sure the receiver is properly connected and powered up.
Configuration Utility
2. On the laptop, in Windows desktop, click the Start button → All
Programs → Bench Tree Group → MWD Software Suite → MWD
Configuration.
3. In MWD Configuration Utility, at the bottom-right, verify there is a green
checkmark over the Network icon, and over the Tool icon if a tool is
connected.
Saving a Configuration 1. In MWD Configuration Utility, click the File menu → Save.

2. If prompted, type in an appropriate filename and click Save.
Loading the 1. In MWD Configuration Utility, click the Load/Store Menu → Load
Configuration from the From…, and then click either Receiver or Tool as appropriate.
Receiver or Tool
2. Wait for the process to complete, then click OK.
Storing a Configuration 1. In MWD Configuration Utility, click the Load/Store Menu → Load
to the Receiver or Tool From…, and then click either Receiver or Tool or Receiver&Tool as
appropriate.
2. Wait for the process to complete, then click OK or Exit.
3. If prompted to run the TFO Procedure, click No.

Comparing the Receiver 1. In MWD Configuration Utility, click the Load/Store Menu → Load From…
Configuration against → Compare Both.
the Tool Configuration
2. Let the progress bar complete and the comparison window pop up.
3. Scroll through the comparison window. If any rows are highlighted in
orange, there is a configuration mismatch.
High-Siding the Tool 1. Rotate the toolstring to the appropriate position on the stands for it to be
high-sided.
2. In MWD Configuration Utility, click the Load/Store Menu → Set Tool
TFO.
3. In the Tool Face Offset Utility window, wait until the table stops inserting
new rows, and the topmost row has a Count/Message of at least five or
ten.
4. Click the Zero The Gravity Tool Face button.
5. Wait until the table stops inserting new rows.
6. Verify the topmost row has a gTFA of 0.0.
7. Click the Exit TFO Utility button.
Diagnostics-Checking 1. In MWD Configuration Utility, click the Tool Menu → Diagnostic Tests.

2. In the Tool Diagnostics window, verify the following:
Ensure the Directional Sensor Information section has
appropriate values, and does not say “No Entry”.
Ensure the Register Values section has zero values beside
Warning and Fault.
Ensure the Flow Switch section has Inverse Flow off.
Ensure the Battery section has Battery 2 off, unless expressly
needed to be on from the beginning.
Ensure the Tool Time section has the correct Date & Time.
Ensure the Sensor Data section has acceptable values.
3. In the Tool Diagnostics window, click the Close Window button before
disconnecting the toolstring.

Field Roll-Testing the 1. In MWD Configuration Utility, click the Load/Store Menu → Set Tool
Tool TFO.
2. Rotate the toolstring to the first roll position on the stands for it to be roll-
tested.
3. In the Tool Face Offset Utility window, wait until the table stops inserting
new rows, and the topmost row has a Count/Message of at least five or
ten.
4. Rotate the toolstring to the next roll position on the stands for it to be roll-
tested.
5. Repeat steps 3-4 until all roll positions have been achieved.
6. Take a screenshot of the Tool Face Offset Utility window for your
records.
Changing the 1. In MWD Configuration Utility, click the Settings Menu → Preferences.

2. In the MWD Configuration Preferences window, browse through the
categories on the left and their associated
textfields/dropdowns/checkboxes on the right.
3. Modify the textfields/dropdowns/checkboxes as appropriate and then
click Save.
