A rationale is an explanation of the basic elements and features you have chosen to include in your creative

response. It explains what ideas and features you used, how you used them and why you used them. It
outlines and justifies the choices you have made in your work.

The following questions are an indication of the type of information you should include- use these as a
guide.

1. What is the main purpose of my creative task? Why?

2. Who is my intended audience? Why?

3. What are the main ideas and themes I have included in my work? Why have these been included?
(e.g. what is significant about them/how do they appeal to my audience?)
4. How have I included features of the texts studied in class and the horror and/or crime genres in my
creative response? What is effective about them?

5. What specific language features and conventions of the horror and/or crime genres have I used? Why?

(These could include imagery, perspective, tone, atmosphere, figurative language etc.)

6. I think the most effective part of my task is….. because……

7. What does your creative response show about your understanding of themes and elements of the horror
and/or crime genres?

Bibliography

Attach a correctly formatted Harvard style bibliography to your creative response submission. This includes
all sources which you used, were inspired by or gave you ideas and any images or audio which you may
have incorporated into your creative response.
