Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

• Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

In my situation with my company J.R. Capital, me and 4 other team members have been
given the task of developing a new team of interns that will help to expand the comapnies
outreach and drive new sales. We are given help from other departments, but we have all
been able to work dilligently to hire, train, and teach new young interns about sales and
how to be proactive.

• Describe how the politics of the organization influenced the situation.

We recently learned about the underlying reasons that we are hiring new interns,
and while it is easily understood from a business side, it can lead us to know that our
interns will eventually get bored or worn out. We have been having our main senior
salesman finding new deals from customers who have shown interest with us. They have
begun to neglect the idea of cold calling people, and not having an immediate deal ready
for them when they call a new prospect.
Now, the interns have been brought on to be able to fill the role of cold calling,
and bringing in new business that would not have contacted if no one was doing cold
calls. From a business side, it makes perfect sense to increase outreach, and to bring in
new deals that would have normally been missed. However, the interns will grow weary
and annoyed when they are making over 200-300 calls per day and 90% of them do not
answer, is not interested, or yells at them over the phone.

• Recommend how you would use organizational politics for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

I think while it is important to always look at what is best for business, it is also
important to allow these new hires to experience some of the rewards as well. It is rare to
dig through a pile of trash to find a diamond, and it is the same idea with the interns. I
think if we were able to talk to our executives, and potentially find a few leads that have
contacted our company about attaining a loan, it could be beneficial to give it to one of
the interns. It woud help them learn the business, and it would allow them more insight
on the inner workings of the company as a whole.

If we were able to find a way to skip the politics about senior salesman being too
lazy to want to make cold calls, it could even our the number of interested leads that we
have come through the company. It is important that we are able to allow the interns to
make sales, earn commission, and experience the benefits of being a salesman for J.R.
Capital. At the end of the day, it could inspire them to make more sales, and then they
will be more persuasive during their cold calls. It would also drive them to make them
see how easy it is when handling a customer that is interested, and it would make them
want to seek a promotion.

• Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

I would start by giving our interns a long introduction into the basis of sales, and
then it would allow them to do their own studying at home. I want them to be hungry to
learn more about our business, and how to make a sale from scratch. I think this will help
them in the long run, and not just in our company. I also think that it is critical for our
interns to feel welcomed when they join the company. I think a good way to show our
appreciating could be after they get setteld giving them one customer who is interested. It
will help them to boost sales, and getting valuable information as well.
