economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This law provided a huge relief for American
families struggling financially due to unemployment, reduced working hours, and other
challenges caused by the pandemic.
The payment was created to help families cover essential expenses during the pandemic,
such as rent, groceries, and medical bills. It was available to married couples under the age
of 17, and the payment was reduced for those with higher incomes.

In addition to direct payments, the CARES Act also provides for other forms of financial
assistance for families. The law provided an additional $600 a week in unemployment
benefits on top of regular state benefits, helping many families keep up with the bills while
looking for work. The law also helped fund small businesses and keep some workers
employed during the pandemic.
