As a young boy, Maslow believed physical


strength to be the single most defining
characteristic of a true male; hence, he
exercised often and took up weight lifting in
hopes of being transformed into a more
muscular, tough-looking guy, however, he was
unable to achieve this due to his humble-
looking and chaste figure as well as his
studiousness.

FREDERICK HERZBERG
Born:- Frederick Herzberg, April 18, 1923 – Lynn (US)
Died:- January 19, 2000 – (US)

Herzberg proposed the motivator-hygiene theory, also


known as the two-factor theory of job satisfaction.
According to his theory, people are influenced by two sets
of factors.

Herzberg (1987) describes the growth factors (or


motivators) as "achievement, recognition for achievement,
the work itself, responsibility, and growth or
advancement," which are intrinsic.[4]:13 Intrinsic factors
include "orientations toward money, recognition,
competition, and the dictates of other people, and the
latter includes challenge, enjoyment, personal enrichment,
interest, and self-determination

CONCLUSION
The two models developed by the two experts aims at
simplifying the motivational process which proved that
motivation is an important factor to improve the
performance level of employees. Herzberg’s theory is an
addition to the Maslow’s theory. These are not
contradictory but complementary to one another.
