 Need to do away with the “culture of contentment”, where society is divided into
the haves and the have-nots.

 The contented class, the socially and economically advantaged majority, defend their
comfortable status. We have a culture of immediate gratification, leading to
complacency and hampering long-term progress.

 Schumpeter’s “creative destruction”. We need to innovate and build on

technological progress

3. Developing a Civilised Malaysia (19 January 2023)

 In an uncertain world, marked by complexity, contradiction, chaos and simultaneity
(we need) a comprehensive framework to steer the country through the era defined
as “postnormal”.

 The concept of Madani has been formulated as our effort to map a strategy to
govern the country effectively. The country that we envision should be ‘civil’ –
sustainable, prosperous, creative, mutual respect, have faith and are kind.

 Growth and expansion must be achieved in the broader context of the humane
economy which frees them from the grip of poverty in a system of capitalism that is
not controlled – unbridled capitalism.

 Can unbridled capitalism provide Marhaen citizens access to basic needs, a life that is
not only fully productive, but also give the dignity that he deserves, ie adequate
income, quality education, effective training, housing, adequate nutrition,
healthcare, safety, security?

 The principle of social justice is the backbone of a humane economy which is guided
by ethical and social concerns as well as based on the principles of justice and virtue
– al-‘adl wa ‘l.
 The main vehicles that form the core of Madani Malaysia are: rebuilding the
economy, ensuring human welfare, reform of institutions or democracy and
legislation, and creating trusteeship administration.

 The strategic enablers that will function as the driving engine are: digitization, people
service, best talent empowerment, and strategic project management
empowerment.

 Every manufacturing sector should embrace the principle of creativity and make
radical changes to prepare the country to face the vibrancy of industry 4.0. The job
market will be changed with the use of AI, robotics, automation, and big data.

 Malaysian public sector Government Performance Index (MyGPI) aims to evaluate

governance by considering leadership, compliance, inclusiveness, responsiveness,
integrity and transparency, leading to public sector performance which is dynamic,
effective and people-oriented.

economic growth.

 With cloud service providers such as AWS, Malaysian companies are producing
greater innovation, more secure data processing available and lower operating costs.

 Large number of Malaysian companies, from start-ups to enterprises, have changed

their services and processes.

 PM’s administration will focus on more equitable economic development in line with

conventional manufacturing to high value-added economy that leverages on
advanced digital technology, creativity and innovation. (Note: This is where digital
transformation and investment such as AWS comes in.)

5. BOAO Forum (30 March 2023)

 Technological competition should be in the top agenda, on par with security and
economic matters

 The race for cutting-edge technology, like in the semiconductor industry, could take
a productive or destructive turn.

 Technological competition should be among the top agendas for discussion at the
highest levels, on a par with security and economic matters, said Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
 The race for cutting-edge technology, like in the semiconductor industry, could take
a productive or destructive turn. Unfettered competition must give way to spirited
collaboration.

 Global inflation could witness a sharp fall in real incomes and a rise in inequality,
which could fuel social unrest. In the spirit of cooperation and solidarity we should
strive towards reducing inequality, promoting social justice and enhancing standards
of living for all.
