EXT.

BASKETBALL COURT -- DAY

FADE IN.

The camera is blurred, we see a figure walking towards the

camera. The figure walks in to focus and we see the face of
SAM HUNT, 18.

Sam looks scared and unsure.

CUT TO

A LOW ANGLE behind SAM as they look up at the basketball hoop

towering over them.

PRODUCTION COMPANY LOGO CARD "A GROUP A FILMS PRODUCTION"

INT. CHANGING ROOM -- DAY

We push in on Sam from behind.

Sam sits alone in the changing room, a single spotlight

shines down on him. He has his head in his hands, his leg
shaking rapidly from nerves.

From the other room we can hear people shouting, basketball's

being bounced and feet skidding across the floor.

SAM
(Voice Over)
Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be
one of the best...

QUICK CUTS OF FAMOUS BASKETBALL PLAYERS SCORING; MICHAEL

JORDAN, LEBRON JAMES, KOBE BRYANT ETC...

Sam gets up, peers through the door/fence and sees a team of
people playing basketball, his eyes light up. He is excited.

INT. BASKETBALL COURT -- DAY

VICTOR, 20ish is the main coach of the basketball team

sits/stands behind SAM.

VICTOR
(voice over)
You see him? That's Hugo. Star player
on the team, he's probably going to be
signed to a major team soon.

Victor points over to one of the people playing basketball,

this person is HUGO, 18. He is a lot bigger than Sam and

dominates the basketball game.

VICTOR
That could be you... you're your own
worst enemy, you gotta get out of your
own head. Come on I'll introduce you
to him.

FADE TO BLACK

FROM THE CREATORS OF 28 MINUTES LATER...

INT. BASKETBALL COURT -- DAY

Victor and Sam walk over to the guys playing basketball.

VICTOR
Hugo, this is Sam, our new protégé.

Hugo reaches out and shakes Sam's hand. Sam looks on in awe,
almost intimidated by the situation.

HUGO
I've heard a lot about you, you wanna
show us what you got?

Hugo extends a ball towards Sam.

CUT TO

A montage of Sam doing basketball tricks around Hugo. People

on the team reacting, Victor looks on, shocked as to what he
is seeing.

Hugo is clearly becoming more and more agitated as he gets

skilled on.

CUT TO

Hugo stands with his back to Sam, bouncing the ball,

defending. Hugo lands a purposeful elbow on to the nose of
Sam, causing him to crash to the ground, holding his nose
which is now covered in blood.

Victor and the team rush over.

LOW ANGLE

Hugo leans down to help him up, acting concerned. As he lifts

Sam to his feet, he whispers in to his ear

HUGO
You know you don't belong here...

The crowd gather around Sam as Hugo slips into the

background.

INT. CHANGING ROOM -- DAY

Sam sits on the bench, head tilted back as Victor fixes his
nose.

SAM
Maybe he's right, maybe I don't belong
here.

VICTOR
You gonna let this stop you?!?

HIGH ANGLE

Sam looks up at Victor, defeated and upset.

INT. DINER -- DAY

Sam sits across the table from a woman. She looks upset,
almost as if she has received bad news.

SAM
This academy is one of the most
prestigious basketball schools in the
country. You know how many people wish
they were in my shoes right now, I
can't let this opportunity slip
through my fingers.

WOMAN
(disgusted)
So that's it... You're choosing
basketball over me?

BEAT.

SAM
(non flinching)
Yeah.... I have to. I have to be
great.

INT. BASKETBALL COURT -- DAY

Sam stands on the court with the basketball in his hand. He

bounces it on the floor.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

The ball builds up a rhythm. The ball gets quicker and

quicker, each time it hits the floor, we cut to a new scene
in the montage.

VICTOR
(voice over the montage)
If you want to be the best, you're
going to have to push yourself harder
than your body will allow you. This
sport isn't for everyone, only the
truly elite will get through this
academy unscathed. It's not enough to
just be good in this sport.

MONTAGE

- Sam is seen looking in to a mirror, covered in sweat

- Sam runs on a treadmill

- Sam screams in anger and punches a wall

- Hugo and Sam are seen getting in to a fight

- Sam grabs Victor in anger

- Sam sits in a dark corridor on his own

- Sam looks at a picture of himself as a kid in a basketball

outfit, he cries

- Sam lifts his head, sweat running down his face

INT. BASKETBALL COURT -- DAY

The same shot as before, Sam sits on the bench, single

spotlight above him. His heads in his hands. Leg shaking.

We hear the crowd cheering in the distance. Muffled at first.

INT. SPORTS HALLWAY -- NIGHT

Sam stands with his back to the camera, he is silhouetted

with the lights of the basketball court shining ahead of him.

He looks ahead towards the doors to the basketball court. We

can hear the crowd cheering, getting louder and louder.

He starts to walk towards the light....
