Write Essay
Write Essay or essay writing is the second task in the Writing module of the PTE Academic
test. You’ll be given an essay topic on which you’ll have to write an essay in 20 minutes.

Yes, it is a timed task. In the test, you’ll get either ONE or TWO essays. If you get one essay,
you’ll have to finish it in 20 minutes, and if you get two essays, you’ll have to finish them in
maximum 40 minutes.

Let’s have a look at the instruction you’ll get in the question.

“You’ll have 20 minutes to plan, write and revise an essay about the topic below. Your
response will be judged on how well you develop a position, organise your ideas, present
supporting details and control the elements of standard written English. You should write
200 to 300 words.”

Since you’ll be given 20 minutes per essay, you can understand that it’s a very important
task, as such a lot of time is being given for a single topic by PTE Academic, and if you get
two essays, you’ll be given 40 minutes for both essays. So obviously, WRITE ESSAY is a
high-weight task.

If you’re not able to finish your essay-typing in 20 minutes, the next question will come
automatically on your screen even if you don’t click NEXT. Vice-versa, if you’re able to
complete your essay before the allotted 20 minutes, and you’re still left with some time,
then you should NOT click on NEXT immediately. Instead, you should check your essay. You
should check it for the multiple parameters which I’ll be discussing below.

In short, consume the entire duration of 20 minutes in essay writing and checking. Checking
your essay is as important as writing it.

PTE uses a number of parameters to score you on essay writing.
There are 7 main parameters on which your scores will be based.
These are:
1. Content
2. Form
3. Vocabulary
4. Spelling
5. Grammar
6. Development, structure and coherence
7. General linguistic range

Points 6 and 7 together make the Enabling Skill of WRITTEN DISCOURSE.

So, the 4 Enabling Skills of Vocabulary, Spelling, Grammar and Written Discourse are
scored along with Content and Form.

Let’s have a look at a mock PTE Academic Score Card.

Write Essay: Parameters and Scoring
The 1 parameter on which your essay will be scored is the CONTENT. You’ll be scored out
st

of 3 points in content. If your essay deals adequately with the content, and your entire
prompt is to the point, you’ll get 3 out of 3 points for content. If you cover the major points,
and omit, or miss out a minor point according to PTE Academic, then you’ll be given 2 out
of 3 points. If you have included only 1 or a few minor points dealing with the essay topic
and omit and miss the MAIN POINT, then you’ll get only 1 point in content out of 3 points.
And lastly, if you are writing off topic, if you’re not writing to the point, you’ll get 0 out of 3 in
content. So mind you, CONTENT is a very important parameter if you want to get a good
score in essay writing part. The parameter CONTENT is very similar to the parameter
TASK RESPONSE or TASK ACTIVITY which is there in IELTS Writing, which means, you
need to write your essay to the point, and not off topic. You need to be very clear in
understanding the topic and writing in the correct flow according to the given topic.

The 2nd parameter on which your essay will be judged is FORM.

What is FORM? Form is nothing but the number of words you use to write the essay. In the
instruction itself, PTE mentions very clearly that your essay should be written between
200 and 300 words, which means, you should never write less than 200 words, and you
should never write more than 300 words. If your essay is between 200 to 300 words, you’ll
get 2 important points for FORM. If your essay is between 120 and 199 words, or if it’s
between 301 and 380 words, you’ll get just 1 point for FORM. If your essay is less than 120
words, or if it’s more than 380 words, you’ll get 0 for FORM. So, why take a chance? It’s
simple. Write your essay between 200 and 300 words. Try to write an essay of at least 225
words.

The 3rd parameter on which you’ll be graded in your essay writing is your VOCABULARY. If
you have an extensive repertoire of vocabulary, including words and phrases and idioms,
you’ll get a good score in the VOCABULARY parameter. Maximum score you can get for
vocabulary is 2 points out of 2. If you have a limited range to express general academic
topics, then you’ll get 1 out of 2 points in vocabulary. Lastly, if you repeat the words often
in an essay, or if you don’t have enough range, or use irrelevant words, though they may be
of high vocabulary, you’ll get 0 out of 2 for vocabulary. Vocabulary is a very important
parameter if you want to get a good score in WRITING in PTE Academic.

#3 www.ptetutorials.online
The 4 parameter on which your essay will be graded is SPELLING. Spelling is one of the
th

most important things you need to be careful about when it comes to essay writing. You
may ask yourself, or you may think that spelling is such an innocuous thing. You couldn’t
be more mistaken! To make you understand the importance of spelling, let me explain it in
a very easy way. If all the spellings of all the words you’ve used in the essay are correct,
you’ll get a maximum of 2 out of 2 points in spelling in Write Essay task. Even if there is a
single mistake in spelling, you’ll get 1 out of 2 points in spelling. If there are more than 2
spelling errors, you’ll get 0 out of 2 in spelling. You CANNOT afford to make mistakes in
spelling. When it comes to spelling, let me also clarify one more important point. In its
writing guideline, PTE Academic mentions that you can use either of the two ENGLISH.
The two main types of English which people use in writing today are: the BRITISH
ENGLISH and the AMERICAN ENGLISH. For example, the word colour can be spelt as
COLOR, as well as COLOUR. It will be spelt as COLOR in American English, and COLOUR in
the British English. Similarly, a word such as ORGANISATION can be spelt with an ‘s’ or a
‘z’. It will be spelt with an ‘s’ in British English, whereas it will be spelt with a ‘z’ in American
English. So, one should be very careful that throughout the entire WRITING in all the
writing tasks in PTE Academic, one uses either of these, either the British, or the
American English. But, I would suggest that you go with the British English. Why you may
ask? Because Australia is under the Commonwealth nations, and all the nations which
are under the Commonwealth ideally follow British English. That’s why, throughout your
entire WRITING, you should follow British English, and not follow American English
ideally.

The 5 parameter on which your essay will be graded is your GRAMMAR. Grammar is very
th

important for any written task. Be it PTE Academic, or be it IELTS, it’s very important. If
you use the correct grammatical range and accuracy, which is ERROR-FREE, and rare to
sight, then you’ll get 2 points for grammar. If you use a sufficient range of grammar, but
there are few mistakes here-and-there, you’ll get 1 out 2 maximum points in grammar.
Lastly, if you use poor grammar, and your range or accuracy is inadequate or insufficient,
you’ll get 0 out of 2. So be careful about your grammar. You CANNOT afford to make
mistakes in grammar.

#4 www.ptetutorials.online
The 6th parameter on which your essay will be scored is the DEVELOPMENT, STRUCTURE
& COHERENCE in the essay, or which we can also call as a part of WRITTEN DISCOURSE.
Written discourse is very similar to COHERENCE & COHESION which IELTS uses to score
your essay. It simply means that your essay should be in the proper form and lucidly
written. It should be logically structured and go point-by-point, and not in a haphazard
manner. If your essay is well structured, it means it’s coherent. And if you’re using the
proper linkers to form a good flow in the essay, it means that you have used proper
cohesive techniques. If coherence and cohesion are proper, you’ll get 2 out of 2 points. If
the coherence is proper, but the flow is missing, that is proper cohesive words and linkers
have not been used, you’ll get 1 out of 2 points. Lastly, if your essay lacks proper form,
structure and flow, you’ll get 0 out of 2 in DEVELOPMENT, STRUCTURE AND COHERENCE.

The 7 and last parameter on which your essay will be scored is called GENERAL
th

LINGUISTIC RANGE. It mainly deals with communication. PTE Academic sees how well
you’re able to communicate an idea. If according to PTE Academic, you use a wide range
of communication blocks to express your ideas, to develop arguments significantly and
form good links between arguments and your points, then you’ll get 2 points in general
linguistic range. If you use the proper words to put across your points, but they’re limited
in range, then you’ll get 1 point in the general linguistic range. Lastly, if you’re using just
the basic points, and are not able to develop ideas and arguments cohesively, then you’ll
get 0 in general linguistic range.

The points 6 and 7 together form the WRITTEN DISCOURSE enabling skill. To understand
how the above mentioned 7 parameters affect the Writing score, let’s have a look at the
diagram below.

Lastly, let’s have a look at a good structure to write an essay. If you will keep this structure in
mind, you will be able to write any PTE Academic essay well.

Let’s start with the key point of PARAGRAPHING. It’s very important that you have a few
paragraphs in your essay. Ideally, you should have 4 or 5 paragraphs. Writing only 3
paragraphs is not a wise idea, and if you write more than 5 paragraphs, your writing almost
becomes like a list rather than an essay.

There are 3 main paragraph types in any essay, which are:

•Introduction
•Body Paragraphs (TWO or THREE)
•Conclusion

#6 www.ptetutorials.online
Essays are of various types. The popular essay categories are:

• Narrative Essays
• Descriptive Essays
• Expository Essays
• Persuasive Essays

Generally, the 4 category of essays is very popular in the PTE Academic test, which we can
th

also call Opinion Essays. In such essays, at the end of the essay topic, an opinion is
generally sought from the user.

Let’s have a look at a sample essay question.

"In the field of education, experts are of the view that computerised tests will completely
replace human teaching methods like classroom teaching.
Do you agree or disagree?"

The text in yellow, which has the essay topic is called the Topic Statement, and the text in
grey, which is asking for the user’s opinion is called the Instruction Statement.

It is very easy to locate the theme of the essay in the Topic Statement. Few of the popular
essay themes are:

•Education
•Environment
•Sports
•Science & Technology
•Relations
•Travel
•Media & Communication
•Governance/Politics
•Humanities

#7 www.ptetutorials.online
You’ll generally come to know the theme of the essay immediately upon reading the
Topic Statement.

Now let’s come back to the essay structure.

An essay is like a funnel. You start with a broad introduction. As the essay progresses,
the content gets more detailed and narrow, and lastly, you reach the conclusion.

How to write an INTRODUCTION
Introduction is the most important paragraph in any essay, and a lot depends on how one
writes the introduction of an essay. An introduction paragraph should be concise and to-
the-point. It should neither be very short, nor very long. To write an introduction is very easy.
You just need to paraphrase the given essay topic in your own words in the first two
sentences.

You should start your essay with the main theme or the background sentence. You can
follow it up using a detailed background sentence.

Also, try to include your opinion in your introductory paragraph. It is also known as Thesis.
Lastly, the Thesis or Opinion should be supported by an outline or a justification, which links
the introduction to the supporting Body Paragraphs.

Introduction:
•Background Sentence
•Detailed Background Sentence
•Opinion
•Justification/Outline

Proving your Thesis - Body Paragraphs 1 & 2

Supporting or Body Paragraphs should be there to prove your thesis using examples, and
should generally be of 4 to 6 sentences.

Body Paragraphs should start with a Topic sentence. After that, you can directly introduce an
example. After that, you should justify and discuss the example, and lastly, you should end it
with a supporting conclusion.

Examples are very good tools to prove your opinion, and more importantly, they will help you
to fill words. Using one or two examples in your essay will easily consume 20 to 50 words.
Also, use of 'Linkers' - link words, to begin body paragraphs is very important. Always
remember to put a comma (,) after the linkers.

#9 www.ptetutorials.online
Body paragraphs can be started with good link words such as:

1 body paragraph: Firstly, / First and foremost, / To being with, / On the one hand,
st

2nd body paragraph: Positive Linkers: Secondly, / Moreover, / Furthermore, / In addition to

the above,

Negative/Tone changing Linkers: However, / On the contrary, / On the other hand, / On the
other side,

Body Paragraph:
• Topic Sentence
• Example
• Discussion/Justification
• Conclusion

Putting it all together - How to write a CONCLUSION paragraph

Writing the conclusion is the easiest task in the entire essay writing process, as you just
need to repeat the information presented in the introduction and supporting paragraphs,
but paraphrased.

Its structure is very simple and 3 sentences are apt for a conclusion. You should start
writing it with a short summary sentence. In the 2 sentence, you should restate your
nd

thesis, but in different words. You can end an essay with a prediction or a recommendation.
It’s a good way to end an essay.

Conclusion:
•Summary
•Restate opinion
•Prediction or Recommendation

#10 www.ptetutorials.online
This structure can be shown as:

• Background Sentence
• Topic Sentence
• Summary

• Detailed Background

• Restate Opinion

• Opinion

Recommendation

Always remember that this is just an essay structure, and NOT a template. Ideally, one
should not cram templates for the exam, as one puts enormous pressure on oneself in
remembering entire essays. Instead, use the above structure and write any essay well in
your own words.

Lastly, to recollect, Write Essay is a timed task of 20 minutes. You should practice writing as
many complete essays as possible before you sit for the actual test. Try to finish the essay
in around 15 to 17 minutes, so that there is enough time left to check your essay! Writing a
good essay is one part, and checking it is another. Checking your essay for mistakes and
improvements is as important as writing a good essay.

What are the benefits of studying plays and theatrical works written centuries
ago to high school students? Discuss and share your own experience with examples.
Grandma’s tales teach us a practical approach to life. Such tales have been saving us from
dangers, helping us find the difference between good and evil, and convincing us to have
faith in the almighty. Old adages, proverbs, and sayings had been written by think tanks of
those eras who put their experiences and praiseworthy knowledge into writing scriptures,
plays, and theatrical works. Such stories still carry great value.

A coterie of young folks today is busy moving their fingers on the cellphones amidst what
they miss the charm of life and its lessons. Of course, life is not all beer and skittles, and thus,
they do face problems in their lives that make them gloomy and depressed. While they find
no time to listen to elders, the high school students almost botch up their lives and careers
while facing challenges. The youngsters need to be determined, firm, and focused. Old plays
and theatrical works definitely carry a message that they can easily understand through
playing them in schools and colleges.

It is evident that when a theatrical work is being played, the students participating in it get
into the stories and characters to justify their roles, and such involvement bolsters their
morale, and encourage them to take up challenges in acting and dialogue delivery. Their
confidence gets boosted, that in turn, results in building their personalities.

Undoubtedly, playing theatrical works renders innumerable benefits to students. The

Victorians had brought in the concept of using Shakespearean literature to improvise
younger minds. In the late 20th century, the concept took a paradigm shift into a subtractive
test that required the students to analyze every scene in detail. Ultimately, the decision of
studying Shakespeare led to artistic and educational outcome grooming children from the
core.

Is studying films at schools as important as studying literature? Give your
opinion sharing your personal experience.
Films have become an integral part of everyone’s life. Beyond entertainment, they are just a
medium to make you aware of sensitive issues that are unbeknownst to you. The best part
of films is a director can convey any message to the society. Steve Martin, a renowned
American actor, comedian, musician, and composer from 1970s once said, “You know what
your problem is, it’s that you haven’t seen enough movies – all of life’s riddles are answered
in the movies.”

Films leave a long-lasting impression on people’s brains and hearts. Examples are here -The
Godfather wherein the aging paterfamilias of a strategically-built crime dynasty hands over
his power to his son who is averse to wrongdoings or the legendary Heath Ledger as the
Joker stating the world-famous quote, “If you’re good at something, never do it for free.”
Studying films at schools is indeed as important as studying literature because movies have
audio-visual effects coupled with brilliant expressions by veteran actors. Spectacular
acting, foolproof direction, heart-melting screenplays in films bring realistic flair that
connects the audience with their genres. Liam Neeson from Schindler’s List, Tim Robbins
from The Shawshank Redemption, and Tom Hanks from Forrest Gump are the epitomes of
acting which made them idols to many.

Children are like wet cement on which a permanent impression can be made. Teaching life’s
lessons through studying films will help them learn that it is not all beer and skittles. They
should take up challenges, and come out ahead. Personally, besides all the debauchery, I
have learned a lot from The Wolf of Wall Street. The film taught me to build a business and
also how to diversify competence making me a strategic leader. Indeed, studying films can
get you the gist of life.

Certain kinds of music promote learning in life. Do you agree or disagree with
the above statement?
“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think of music. I live my
daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music,” these are the words from none other than
the greatest scientist of all time Albert Einstein. Heinrich Heine, one of the most renowned
German poets, also opined that where words leave off, music begins. Music is omnipresent
as we feel it in nature and even in the human-made structures. Wallin and his other fellow
researchers write in The Origins of Music that the genre has been in existence for
approximately 55000 years.

Almost every culture and religion have music; Hindus have Sanskrit chants while Christians
have carols, Buddhists have special gongs, and Muslims have adhan. It is also said that
when chants or phrases are woven with melodious music, they get into the brain as
preaching. Humans are more tend to remember and recall music than the texts read.

Evidence-based research documents that student learning is better through the medium of
music as it equips kids with foundation capabilities to grasp core academic subjects.
Enhanced motor skills, superior working memory, and cultivated better thinking are a few
outcomes observed during the experiments. Music education also sharpens students’
attentiveness and strengthens subject perseverance.

Learning music instrument has an added advantage. In fact, it is icing on the cake as it is
known that while playing musical notes or rhythmic tunes, there is enhanced hand-to-brain
coordination of a player. A study at the University of Toronto said that there was a slight
improvement in the IQs of six-year-olds who were taught voice and piano weekly.

There is no denying that music can promote learning in life, but it can also improve social
behavior of the learners.

Should governments build more roads to allow more vehicles, or should they
improve the network of public transports? Give your opinion.
Pollution has been one of the gravest concerns of the humankind ever since
industrialization and population grew. The level of greenhouse gases is now touching the
alarming figure across the world especially in the developed and developing countries.
Hundreds of thousands of people travel each day to their work from one place to another
fulfilling which, more and more transporting mediums have been introduced. The
government is forced to expand the roads as the number of public transporting, and private
vehicles have increased manifold.

Building more roads is mandatory as to house more vehicles. However, more vehicles
produce more pollution which in turn harms the environment and thus the health of the
people. Governments may stretch roads or go for the newer ones, but there are other areas
that need more attention. For instance, sedans on roads have one person sitting in it; the
cavalcades of prime ministers and presidents; and, the fleet of vehicles that celebrities carry
with them wherever they go. All of those extra vehicles are nothing but burdens on the road.

Improving local or public transport network is indeed a brilliant idea that can reduce the
number of vehicles on the road. Of course, better frequencies in trains, buses, and metros
will make citizens think of dropping their own vehicles and commute through public
transport as it would be cheaper and faster. Special lines and tracks for public transports
will help people reach their destinations faster which can make it an obvious option.

It is true that the infrastructure of a city should facilitate better transportation within and
around it, but there are more areas that require refinement in rules, for example, a limited
number of cars per family or in the cavalcades of VIPs.

Governments should reduce the investment in arts, music and painting, and
instead, focus solely on the economic development of a country.
Do you agree or disagree?
Governments’ job is to nurture every talent the citizens have and to provide an aid to a
common person who cannot afford costly affairs of education, literacy, and culture. The
investment in arts, music, and painting is in terms of holding galleries and exhibitions at
various places where citizens come, learn and get motivated.

There is a different opinion that governments should better focus on economic

development rather than spend money on promoting art and culture. Nevertheless, such a
stance is not applied today anymore. There are many instances that proved that art, music,
and painting contributed to country’s economy. In fact, when it comes to tourism, the major
contribution to the economy is due to the arts and cultures of a place. In fact, there have
been many foreigners who visit Asian countries like India to study folk dances such as
Bharatnatyam and musical instruments like Tabla.

Investing in promoting art and music events help locals and foreigners know the cultural
value of a nation that in turn will help better societies across the world. In addition, such
events, exhibitions, and contests provide healthy entertainment to people who are busy and
depressed in their personal and professional lives.

The subsidies provided by governments to talented artists will help them show their
expertise to the world that otherwise becomes a very difficult task to achieve. Investing in a
subsidized art college will produce brilliant artists who have unparalleled talent but little
money. Cultural activities on festivals bring harmony between different groups of people
who belong to different communities and ethnicities. Also, promoting a good artist to take
part in international contests will glorify the name of the country which equals to develop
the country. I don’t agree that investment in art, music, and painting should be cut down.

Medical technology is responsible for the longevity of human life. Is it a curse or
a blessing? To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Typhoid, once labeled as ‘killer,’ is now an OPD ailment that physicians treat with tablets and
minimal diet restriction. Gone are the days when diseases used to threaten people. With
advancement and betterment in healthcare or medical technologies, the longevity of the
humankind has been improved markedly.

It is beyond question that longer lives of people positively contribute to civilizations and
preserving cultures. Nevertheless, if we ponder over the topic, we may find some examples
where older adults, of course, due to longevity, may hamper the harmony of their families
one or the other way.

Years back, the number of sexagenarians and septuagenarians living in societies was pretty
less; however, with time it has increased manifold. Thanks to science! But, because of the
aging, they are in a real huff which annoys rest of the family members. Even further, their
physical and mental state is not conducive to the productivity of any kind. Since they are
retired and now live a sedentary life, they are prone to have health ailments. Though medical
science helps them live longer, no magical nectar can make them alive and kicking.

The expenses spent on elderly’s medical checkups and healthcare is a pretty big sum for the
breadwinner of their family. It is not an inept remark, but, at times, for the rest of the family
members, it is indeed hampering their routine. Even worse, with elderly people at home,
there is a definite ‘cut’ on family’s leisure activities like touring, partying, and gathering.

The longevity of human life because of improved medical science or technology cannot be
considered as a curse, but certainly, it is not a boon either! Should it had been an
improvement of the overall health of the elderly, it could have been surely a gift to the
humankind.

Personal development is the base for professional development and advancing in
one’s career. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
If you go by books, you learn theories, but no book helps you become pragmatic. Sound
knowledge of theories can make you a scholar, but when it comes to solving a problem, you
need a practical approach. Unfortunately, practical solutions come with experiences and
observations, and not from any book. At work, one has to face a lot of challenges in
customer care, sales, and services which all cannot be tackled through theories read in the
business and management books. The presence of mind, the capability to take quick
decisions to avoid damage, and self-confidence are a few keys that work.

Maslow, in 1970, suggested that all employees possess a built-in requirement for personal
development that happens through a method called self-actualization. A very famous
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs has been explained through a simple picture of a pyramid. The
bottom of the pyramid starts with physiological needs, and as we go upward, it passes
through safety needs, esteem needs, cognitive needs, aesthetic needs, and ends up at self-
actualization.

Personal development makes an individual competent, and thus it opens up the doors to
success in career. In the book of Motivation and Personality second edition, it has been said
that the pathway to self-actualization involves studying own needs, approach, and
mistakes. In addition, even psychologists opine that personality development can assist an
individual to understand the eternal journey that results in better focus, dedication, and
sincerity.

Ideally, personal development aims to develop better awareness, knowledge, and abilities,
and top of all, a control over all bodily senses. Experts these days also mention that adding
meditation and healthy lifestyle can markedly improve both mental state and physical
endurance; therefore, undoubtedly, it will help advance one’s career in all directions.

Many times, companies use advertisements to influence people to buy products
which they don’t need. Give your opinion about this practice.
It is easy to manipulate masses in many ways and an advertisement is one of the most
effective weapons. Local and multi-national companies put their efforts in marketing their
products or services through advertisements. The commercials shown on televisions,
hoardings, newspapers and other print media leave a huge impact on readers’ or onlookers’
minds. At times, people come under the sway of advertisements to the extent that they
purchase goods that they actually don’t require.

Companies are here to make profits, and they leave no stone unturned to allure people.
Commercials have been the best tool for any company. Adding icing to the cake is super and
hypermarkets that house almost all products on their shelves that make people greedy
enough to buy unwanted items. Also, the commercials have renowned sportspersons,
actors from film industries, and highly influential celebrities that adolescents and kids love
to follow. Since their favorite stars endorse the brands, they can be easily led by the
advertisements which ultimately results in forcing parents to go for a product.

Companies spare huge budget on marketing, and thus, they hammer their commercials on
the public. Advertisements shown during the prime times on televisions and popular sports
event like FIFA World Cup have the largest impact on viewers, and the products are likely to
sell like a hot cake. The bigger the star endorsing the product, the higher the prices of a
product. That said, such products’ purchase can even shake up the monthly household
budget.

While banning commercials will be unfair, it is an individual’s duty to refrain from purchasing
unwanted goods only because the products are taken up by renowned personalities. In my
personal and frank opinion, the promotions of a product should have some limitations that
they should not create a heavy impact on viewers’ minds.

Essay #8 www.ptetutorials.online
These days, many people are moving to urban areas from rural areas for a
better life. What do you think about it? Is it a good thing? Discuss.
Moving from one place to the other one has been humankind’s practice since ages. In fact,
many historians believe that such a migration is an integral part of any civilization.
Nevertheless, in ancient times, the migration used to happen as a last resort, for example,
severe drought or natural calamities. But today, many people move to urban areas from rural
areas for leisure life as they have access to city clubs, discotheques, hookah bars, and
places the like.

According to the latest survey conducted by the UN, 15% of people from rural areas migrate
to nearby cities, and the figure is rising year by year. The scene is common throughout the
world, in almost all countries. Such migration has resulted in overcrowded streets and
highly dense population in cities like New Delhi, Shanghai, New York, and many more.

At a personal level, for one’s own comfort, it is a good thing. Moving to a nearby city is good
for villagers as they can have better education for their children. Also, they have
multispecialty clinics and hospitals for the elderlies in their homes. But for the rarest
emergencies moving to the city may not sound justified; and, as far as education is
concerned, good transportation is available at the remotest areas today. So, there are
alternatives available in rural areas.

Poor air quality, drying resources of water, and airborne ailments are the rage these days in
an urban area. One of the reasons for deteriorating urban lives is population due to the
migration of hundreds of thousands of people every year. The best solution to this could be
from governments who can act wisely and provide all the facilities to villages stopping
locals to move to urban areas.

Violence portrayed on TV and in the movies leads to an increase in crime in our
society. People who watch violent movies are likely to become criminals.
Do you agree or disagree?
"Television is a good slave, but a terrible master". This adage is true for anything or any
condition exacerbating when consumed or done in excess. It is generally believed that
television has a negative impact on children who have a free gateway to watch any program
without adult supervision. A balance should be kept and morality and ethics should be
adhered to when viewing televised content.

Since their advent, television sets have proliferated and have become ubiquitous all around
the world. Many child rights proponents are of the view that the depiction of violence on
television sets has a detrimental effect on the mind of a young child. For instance, according
to a recent survey in Mexico city, twenty-seven out of every hundred children were found to
be leading a life of crime due to easy access to television content which was rife with
violence.

On the other hand, television programs cater to people of all age groups around the globe.
Shows of different genres are aired on various channels, through which people educate and
entertain themselves after a tiring day at work. In today's world, where everyone is working
at a frenetic pace, people hardly have the time and energy to pursue personal hobbies or
interests after their office time. When they return home, they just want to relax and watch a
good movie, or maybe catch up on all the latest happenings of the day by viewing news
channels.

In a nutshell, television can be a boon or a bane depending on personal usage. In my view,

there are many factors which can be attributed to a person's criminal nature. Thus, a balance
should be maintained before blaming televisions for a person's doings.

In some countries around the world, voting is compulsory. Do you agree with the
notion of compulsory voting? If voting is compulsory in a democracy, what are
some conclusions we can draw about the nature of democracy?
Of the people, by the people, for the people" is the motto of a true democracy. Voting is
quintessential in bringing a good government to power. If people wince and crib about
governments being in power, they should use enfranchisement when the opportunity
knocks.

Firstly, suffrage or the right to vote is a blessing which most countries of the world have
today. Still, there are many nations where voting is not allowed and dictatorships and
communist powers are calling the shots. For instance, North Korea is ruled by Kim Jong, a
dynastic ruler, whose forefathers have been ruling North Korea since three generations.
Conversely, there are countries like Poland where voting is mandatory by law. If a native of
Poland doesn't vote during assembly or state elections, the state has the right to jail the
citizen and penalise him with a hefty fine.

Moreover, there are many countries in Africa which are run by autocrats and dictators, where
the 'rule of the gun' is the only law. People living in these nations are deprived of their basic
right to live freely. If enfranchisement is made compulsory in a nation, it can cast many
positive effects. Many times, denizens become fed up with the incumbent party which is
ruling and feel lazy to go out and vote on the election day. A recent example which comes to
mind is that of the recently held presidential elections in the United States of America, where
Donald Trump won the popular vote as the voters wanted a change from the ruling
Democratic party which led America for eight long tumultuous years.

To conclude, voting is the most powerful tool with the citizens of any country. Furthermore,
voting should be made compulsory-by-law in all democracies. A single vote can change the
course of a nation.

Many people think that the native region affects a successful person.
What is your opinion about the effect of people's native region on their success?
The world we live in is replete with innumerable examples of people who have been uber-
successful. Many times, the achievements of a person are linked to his birthplace, the traits
he learnt from his childhood surroundings, and how he was affected by his native roots. But
whether we should couple a person's success with the place where he is born is a debatable
issue, to say the least.

History has been witness to numerous success stories, which involved extraordinary
individuals, who were born in testing circumstances, the odds being stacked against them,
and still, they rose from the ashes like a phoenix. They went on to change the course of
mankind. A telling example which comes to mind is that of the Greek financial magnate, Sir
George Soros. Being born to very poor Syrian refugees who migrated to America when Soros
was just two years old, he grew up to be one of the most prolific investment bankers of his
generation.

Moreover, success depends a lot on a person's willpower. Failure is just a stepping stone to
success, and victory tasted after many defeats is the sweetest. We have the case of Barack
Obama, the first African-American president, who is of a Kenyan descent, and spent is
childhood in Africa. Who would have guessed that he would go on to become the president
of the United States for two successful terms despite his African roots!

Lastly, it all boils down to an individual's innate capacity to fight the odds against him. "A rose
by any other name would smell as sweet". Similarly, a determined person who is dogged to
achieve his goals with tenacious persistence will persevere and succeed, no matter what, no
matter where!

Mass media has become an indispensable part of our lives.
Discuss its pros and cons.
In the last few decades, mass media has been the biggest propaganda tool used by
countries, governments and people alike. It is used to share news, propagate views and is
also used to malign identities by spewing hatred about them. Using mass media as a boon
or a bane depends on its transmitter. In this essay, we will shed light on both the pros and
cons of this man-made monster, which we call mass media.

To begin with, mass media encapsulates all the major mediums of communication,
including newspapers, television and the internet. Each of these has its own set of users and
reach. But in the last few years, undoubtedly, the internet has been the most ubiquitous
source of information. There is hardly any place in the world today where the internet is not
present because of the proliferation of smartphones. Also, television is the most common
household device. News channels these days have become a conduit for powerful business
conglomerates to spread their messages to people sitting in the comfort of their homes.

Moreover, so many mobile applications or 'apps' have burgeoned these days, which have
made people social media addicts. People are glued to their smartphones for so many
hours, and spend time on various apps such as Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter, which are
very powerful mass communication channels. A recent example of the impact social media
has is how the American president Donald Trump used Twitter almost every day during his
presidential campaign despite overwhelming odds against him becoming president. People
were almost hypnotised by his tweets - messages on Twitter, so much so, that America saw
the most massive voter turnout in its history.

Lastly, people should use their judgment while using social media, as whoever controls the
media, controls the mind.

It is argued that getting married before finishing school or getting a job is not a
good choice. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Matrimony is a bond best served by people of a certain maturity. Consequently, marriage is
everything about timing. Many people believe that a couple should be man and wife only at
the opportune moment, after having gained a proper education, and preferably after
beginning one's financial innings. A wedlock out of hurry often leads to many conjugal
issues, which are often realised only after matrimony.

Firstly, completing schooling and gaining further education gives one a certain confidence
in life. In today's times, education is the most important qualification a man needs. And
higher education, more so. It is almost impossible to land a good job without passing out
from a school of repute. Now add to this the responsibility of a marriage, and it would be a
complete disaster for the newlyweds. Financial instability is a crime in today's day and age,
and without a regular income, it becomes very difficult to lead a happy life. For instance,
basic commodities for daily household chores have become prohibitively expensive and
buying them needs monthly budgeting.

Moreover, many times people get married at a very young age, without pondering the
challenges which life may throw at them post-marriage. Generally, the wife moves to a new
environment, which may be very challenging at a young age. Many times, being in a
relationship in one's adolescent years comes with a lot of stress, and if children are born
early, then it may be very difficult and taxing for young parents to deal with the demands of
parenthood.

Furthermore, the few years post-marriage is usually the time the couple gets to spend
together. Early parenthood without a steady income can lead to disharmony in marital bliss.

Lastly, it is better to wait a while than to rush and have things fall apart.

Is Increase in tourism beneficial or harmful to the local culture?

It is scientifically proven that humans need a break from their tiring tasks and tedious work.
It is for this reason, most of us plan getaways to escape from our busy professional lives.
Furthermore, a trip to other countries or places away from our hometowns can fill us with a
new joy, and we are then ready to work with boost again. This essay will discuss why an
increase in tourism has more merits than drawback to the ethnicity of the indigenous
cultures around the world..

On the one hand, there are some who take tourism as a cultural harm to their societies or
cultures. According to them, tourists who visit their places may influence the locals with
their attire and lifestyles, which in turn, may have negative effects. For instance, in the
Middle East region, western culture is not widely accepted, and thus, the local governments
take utter precautions in preserving their ethnic values.

On the other hand, there are many staunch proponents of tourism and travelling because it
makes the world smaller and acquainted. Local rites and rituals should not be that weak that
they are blown away by a small wind of influence. Tourism provides the gamut of economic
and humanitarian benefits as we know each other. It is needless to say how advantageous
the bonds between tourists and locals can prove to spread multiculturalism in the world.

In a nutshell, tourists should always be welcomed by any country or region whose economy
depends on tourism. Moreover, in my opinion, an increase in tourism shall bring more
benefits than harms. And thus, I am in total favor of tourism spreading all over the world.

Scientific research should be restricted to provide education and personal
knowledge – do you agree?
Knowledge never goes in vain. If you have learned something, you will reap its benefits
sooner or later. The argument of restricting scientific research only for personal knowledge
enhancement or providing education seems to be baseless. It is because of scientific
researches that many legacy systems have been supplanted by contemporary tools making
our lives easier than ever before.

First of all, people of the opinion that scientific research should fall within the ambit of the
predefined fields should have a second thought and broaden their views. Research of any
kind in such a way would be purely self-centered. Studies done be reputed universities and
scientists are more in the interest of public or society rather than aimed at some person. For
instance, all the scientific researches done by NASA - the American space research
organisation, have greatly contributed to humanity, as the outcomes of its research have
had a massive positive impact on all human lives around the world. Had it not been for such
scientific research, many poor countries would still be in doldrums.

Moreover, not only do scientific research help improve human health, but it also addresses
the well-being of animals and the mother nature. A myriad of fields such as agriculture,
astronomy, social science, archaeology, technology, literature, education and many more
are open for scientific experiments and have great scope of improvements.

To sum up, the intense research done by scholars and scientists in the right direction can
help us all in numerous ways. I, thus, strongly back that scientific researches should be
conducted without any boundary, and not for just personal enhancement. If science will not
save the world, what will? Rampant progress in science and technology will be the only
panacea to all the problems which plague mother earth.

Many species in the world are on the verge of extinction, how do you see it?

The ‘time’ does not always favour each one of us; inevitably, some species, for instance,
dinosaurs, got extinct. However, for such an extinction, humans had the least role to play.
Natural calamities and extra-terrestrial objects were the ones that destroyed many lives on
the earth. Or, in other cases, vicissitudes of their lives might have taken a heavy toll on their
existence. But here, the question is a little bit different.

Today, we have many species on the verge of extinction because of human interference.
While saving the species from the natural calamities is a tough row to hoe, we can certainly
curb unethical practices of hunting down animals, birds, marine lives, and insects. For
instance, the great African White Horn Rhino has become almost extinct because of the
unquenchable human greed for its horn. Many superstitious people believe that if the
particles of the horn are crushed and consumed, it increases the longevity of the human life.
Not only are such practices illegal, but also have they eliminated one of the most majestic
creatures to have walked the surface of the earth.

Saving species doesn’t come through banning hunts only. All the factors that affect one’s
living, for example, global warming, should be taken care of as well. Deforestation is the
quintessence of another human deed that has brought many jungle lives under threat.
Whether to boost skills or have any monetary gain, hunting will surely affect those innocent
lives.
To recapitulate, we cannot change the past, but we can certainly turn over a new leaf by
making laws and orders stricter, and top of all by making people understand the importance
of saving ‘life’ irrespective of the species we are concerned of.

Company Top level Authorities should or should not take employees’
suggestions or ideas to take any decisions. Discuss.
Decision-making is an important process on which the success of any company depends. It
is a vital part in achieving the desired organisation goals. Whether the company leaders
should include their employees’ ideas or suggestions prior to making a decision or not, is a
debatable subject. This essay will explain the advantages and drawbacks of allowing the
employees to take part in the decision-making process of a an organisation.

To begin with, there are a myriad of reasons why employees should be a part of the decision-
making process of any institution. One of the preponderant reasons is that it builds
confidence in their staff members. In addition, it makes them feel like they are treasured by
the company, for their voices are heard by their superiors. Moreover, it strengthens the
teamwork of a company and makes everyone work as a homogeneous unit. Therefore, it
prevents absenteeism in a company and helps in promoting a long-term relationship
between the company and the employees.

However, there are also drawbacks in accepting the employees’ suggestions and ideas
while making a company’s decision. For instance, the company bosses are more
knowledgeable and skilled about running a business, since they have years of decision-
making experience under their belt. Thus, not all of the ideas and propositions made by
these employees are best for the company.

In a nutshell, decision-making is a very crucial aspect of success for any company. In my

opinion, even though employees’ suggestions and proposals are important, any decisions
should be only made by the top level authorities of a company. After all, the buck has to stop
somewhere, and ideally should with the top management. After all, as the famous saying
goes - the ship that will not obey the helm, will obey the rocks.

1.Nowadays, people spend too much time at work to the extent that they hardly
have time for their personal life. Discuss.
Nowadays, people spend too much time at work. They do not have time for their personal
life, consequently, their personal life is affecting negatively. One does not realise that in the
race of being highly productive, personal life takes a back seat. Long working hours not only
affect one’s personal life but it also affects one’s health physically and psychologically. In
this essay, we will discuss in detail the cause and effects of working long hour.

Due to this competitive environment, work pressure has increased. Every organisation
wants to do something different and new. This has increased the pressure on employees.
Technology advancement is another factor which has increased pressure on employees. To
make a prominent place in society and for a successful professional life, people work hard
and spend extra hours at the workplace by compromise their personal family life.

It’s not like that one should not work that extra hour to improve or grow but the matter here is
to strike a balance between the professional and personal life, as asking for a fine line of

Experience is a more effective way to teach, compared to books?
Agree or disagree.
It is a highly controversial issue that the experience is the more effective way to teach,
compared to the books in the present time. I strongly believe that experience plays a very
significant role in learning. This essay is going to provide brief information about the
experience being the most important and effective way to learn.

Experience is the practical exposure to work and can be attained through practice only. The
experience is not limited up to any extent or any field it varies from activities to activities. To
begin with the positive side, practical lesson helps us in more deeply understanding than a
theory, which we learn from books. Furthermore, experience assists us to become more
socially active. For e.g.: reading a book in the library in an isolated place.

On the other hand, practical experience provides us to share personal thoughts with others
and gain more and more knowledge. Moreover, by having a practical experience we can
handle critical situations effortlessly. Additionally, we can make the decision more quickly.

To recapitulate, with the above evidence one can conclude that lessons learned from books
are often forgotten, but we never forget our first-hand experience. Hence, the experience is
the more effective way to teach yet, the involvement of books cannot be marginalized.

"More information available online so library's book is useless" or as e-books
are available online these days, the value of printed books has diminished.
Agree or disagree.
With the advancement in technology and development, hard copies of books are being
replaced by their electronic versions. Many people opine that the advantage of the
information available on the internet is beneficial. Others reject this notion and argue that
due to the online e-books availability libraries are getting closed. In my opinion, the latter
proposition appears to be more rational. The essay will further elaborate both sides with
examples, and thus, lead to a plausible conclusion.

To commence with, in the fast-growing world, technology is developing with rapid speed in
all fields. More and more e-books are getting released on the internet. Online libraries can
provide the society with some noticeable effects which are rooted in the fact that the merits
of distance learning, as well as educational websites and technological tools, are
inextricably bound up. According to the report by the prestigious university, the downside of
the ease of access is correlated negatively with the convenient exploitation of online
resources.

Moreover, not only the online libraries but also the online learnings and courses might
increase the consequences of the less expenditure of commuting. According to my own
experience, when I was a university student, I performed an academic experiment, which
discovered more enthusiasm amongst students. Thus, the beneficial ramifications of both
burgeoning methods of teaching and a wide variety of tastes apparently can be seen.

According to the arguments aforementioned, one can reach out to the conclusion that even
though there are some disadvantages of e-books its benefits are very useful to the present
world. In a nutshell, the advantages of e-books have overweighed the disadvantages.

Large shopping malls are replacing small shops.
What's your opinion? Good or bad?
In the past few years, shopping malls popularity has grown rapidly and are transforming the
urban lifestyle. Due to which some people think large shopping malls are replacing small
shops, they think small shops are best for purchasing day-to-day items while others think
shopping malls are far better than small shops. This essay will elaborate on how large
retailers could contribute to the price transparency, and thus, lead to a logical conclusion.

The major reason that people are preferring malls is the convenience of getting our daily
needs including groceries, clothes, shoes, books etc. under one roof along with cinemas,
and entertainment arcades making it a one-stop solution. The people backing the idea of
promoting mall culture supports it with the fact that it not only saves a lot of time of
shopping in-fact saves time from bargaining also as things are available at fixed prices.
Furthermore, the fierce competition among big shopping malls could finally benefit
consumers through the form of a price war. Therefore, leading retailers' domination in
beneficial for consumers in terms of price.

Moreover, shopping malls have also generated employment opportunities. If you want to
start a business or any food outlet, malls are the best place for you to start, as many people
visit malls every day, it will be good for the startup. You can easily cover their expenditure

natural resources. The major cause of the destruction of natural resources is the pollution

Parents play an important role in educating children as teachers.

It is an undeniable fact that parents' plays a significant role in educating their children.
Parents play an influential role in encouraging and motivating their kids to learn. Many
people state that parents are the best teachers of their child. I strongly believe that parents
are the child's first role model. The following essay would further elaborate on the reasons
why parents are essential for their achievement's with justifying reasons and thus lead to a
plausible conclusion.

Firstly, it is an irrefutable fact that parents play a significant role in developing their
youngsters. Children acquire skills at the very early stage of their life if the parents are
responsive and understanding. Children follow the way which parents open for them, search
approaches, methods to expose possibilities of the world. Parents build child's personalities
by teaching them how to live and interact with people around them.

Secondly, every child has been influenced by their parents from their early life. Parents have
a vested interest in their child, in the sense that they will educate on what is right and wrong.
Parents are companions of children in all aspects and witness all joys and sorrows of them.
Parents are also the ones who encourage children to study hard and achieve their goals.
They want their children to do well in life and bring honour to the family. Furthermore, they
share an extremely high emotional bond with them which strengthens parents influence.

To put it in a nutshell, good parental support helps the child to be positive, healthy and good
life long learner. In my opinion, children learn fundamental learning from parents and further
that is tuned by teachers.

Effective learning requires time, comfort and peace, so it is impossible
to combine study and employment. Study and employment distract one
from another. To what extent do you think the statements are realistic?
Support your opinion with examples.
Learning requires comfort, time and internal peace, a great deal of focus and dedication, and
since jobs also require the same. Some people opine that it is not possible to pursue studies
and employment at the same time. I do not quite agree with this view. I strongly believe that
in this age of e-learning, a committed person can study without quitting their job.

To begin with, online classes have made learning possible from anywhere. People can now
learn even during their leisure hours at work. Hence, any employee interested in obtaining
higher academic qualifications can enrol in an online course without quitting their job.
Almost every university now offers online programs for working persons interested in
upgrading their skills. The main advantage of enrolling in an online course is that students
can learn at a time convenient to them. There is no need to go to a college to attend the
classes. All it requires is effective time management.

The internet has made learning even easier for working professionals. It is a treasure trove of
information. Many websites provide online tutorials that anyone can use. For example,
anyone can learn coding or website designing online with the help of online tutorials
available on the internet. There is no need to even enrol in a course. This feature is
particularly beneficial for people employed in the software sector. Since they have to
constantly upgrade their skills and learn new programming languages as they arrive, the
online tutorials are a boon for them.

To conclude, in this age of the internet and online learning programs, it is perfectly possible
to work and study at the same time.

Should Universities Impose Penalties on Students
for late submission of assignments? Discuss.
It is questionable whether or not Universities should impose fines on pupils for late
submissions of projects. Some opine that the fear of penalties makes the students more
serious towards studies, while others suggest that the undue pressure of submission before
deadline results in serious offences such as plagiarism. This essay will discuss points to
support the opinion in further paragraphs.

Firstly, the main reason why penalties should be imposed on students who prolong
submissions of their homework is that they do not repeat the same mistake. If once the
teacher will agree to take the late-submitted assignment, the student will take studies lightly
and will do the same in other subjects as well. Hence, if there will be fines, they will become
more organized and take their education seriously.

On the other hand, there are more reasons why penalties should not be applied for late
submissions. First of all, if the students have a fear of fines, they will not deliver quality in
their work. Instead of doing it themselves, they will commit serious offences such as
plagiarism, which is the submission of someone else's work under your name. Resultantly,
they will consider assignments to be a chore, instead of learning something from it.

Next, sometimes there are a few pupils who cannot submit the projects in time, due to
genuine reasons such as an injury, issue at home, or some others. And, if the tutor will still
charge them the fine instead of understanding their cause, the student will get demoralized
and might lose interest in studies.

In conclusion, imposing fines is right up to some limit, but its drawbacks are more. Teachers
should inquire about the reasons for late submissions first, rather than straightaway
charging huge penalties.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Cashless Society.

With an increase in the pace of time, many cities and countries around the world have
accepted cashless society. Several powerful forces are behind the move to a cash-free
world, including governments and large financial services companies. I believe that a
cashless community has lots of benefits to offer. I will discuss both the benefits and
drawbacks of the cashless society in the upcoming paragraphs.

Firstly, if society goes cashless altogether, it can become more spend-thrift. With electronic
payments, it's easy to swipe, tap, or click without noticing how much you spend. Consumers
will need to renew their efforts to manage to spend. Moreover, moving money around and
protecting large sums of cash could become difficult.

On the contrary, there are plenty of benefits to going cashless. The most significant
advantage is that people need not carry bulky wallets all the time. Credit cards and debit
cards are among the most popular cash alternatives in use today. Moreover, paying by card
saves money in the long run. It might not appear to be a significant saving, but when we
always use the card to pay for everything, we can save a lot of money.

In conclusion, if people stay more conscious, they can avail a plethora of advantages of
cashless society. Hence, every country should go cashless and lead a secure life.

Design of buildings has positive or negative impact on people's life and work.

In today's era, it is debatable that building design and construction has an impact on
people's life and work. Everyone has their point of view to select the design of the building.
Some people may be in accord with the conception that the design of the house impacts the
life of humans positively, while others may differ that the positive impact of anything is
defined by person and not by the structure of the building. In my opinion, the design of any
building matters a lot to work life. I will elaborate it in further deliberation.

To commence with, the construction and plan of a building depend on the person. The
reason is that a good and sound design encourages proper ventilation and natural light in
the house, which helps to promote good health of the people. Hence, the design of buildings
should be given priority in this modern world.

Secondly, infrastructure plays an important role in a worker's life and health. Good working
conditions increases production and positive attitude. People working in the well-managed
building feel proud. Modern buildings with proper ventilation will have fewer chances of
allergies and other diseases.
To recapitulate, the infrastructure of any building should be designed by keeping in mind the
health of workers. As a result, the design of buildings should be given priority on a wide
range without any trouble.
