A) Answer the following questions:

1- What is the rhyme scheme of the poem?


The rhyme scheme is ababcc.

2-Who wrote the poem?


William Wordsworth is the poet who wrote it. He is a
famous English poet, who has done a lot for poetry.
He belongs to the Romantic school of poetry.

a great effect on their poetry.
3- Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the Milky Way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousands saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance

a) Paraphrase the above stanza.


The poet says that the daffodils are stretched along the side of

the lake in an endless line, shining like stars at night. They were

moving in a lively way.

b) Mention two figures of speech, write the lines and explain


them.
1) ‘Continuous as the stars that shine’

Simile: The poet compares the daffodils to stars in their huge

number and their shiny appearance.

2) ‘Tossing their heads in sprightly dance’

Personification: The poet personifies the daffodils as human

beings moving their heads quickly. (the poet gives the human

ability of moving the head to the daffodils)

4-Quote the stanza where the poet compares himself to a


cloud in the sky. Mention three different figures of
speech in the stanza, write the lines and explain them.
I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills.


When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Figures of Speech (Literary Terms):


1- ‘I wondered lonely as a cloud.’

Simile: The poet compares himself to a cloud walking without an aim.

2) Internal musical devices:

a) The poet used alliteration in:

* Line 2: ‘That floats on high o’er vales and hills’.

The ‘h’ sound as in high, and hills.

* Line 5: ‘Beside the lake, beneath the trees,’.

The ‘b’ sound as in beside, and beneath.

3) ‘Golden daffodils.’

Metaphor: The poet compares the yellow daffodils to gold in their

bright colour.

5- The waves beside them danced, but they

Outdid the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed – and gazed – but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought

Paraphrase the above lines and mention a figure of speech, write the

line and explain it.

Paraphrase :The poet says the water in the lake beside the

daffodils was moving as well, but the daffodils looked much

prettier and happier. Their lovely sight made the poet feel

happy. This pretty scene had a great effect on the poet

‘The waves beside them danced’ & ‘they outdid the sparkling

waves in glee’

Personification: The poet personifies the waves as human

beings dancing and feeling happy.

6- What is the main theme of the poem daffodils?

 The poet describes nature by describing the daffodils and


comparing them to stars and waves.

 He is also writing about himself in relation to nature. Nature


is a source of happiness.
