*Phrasal Verbs*

*1. Phrasal Verbs with “turn”*

*turn up* - appear suddenly


Eg: Our cat turned up after we put posters up all over the neighbourhood.

*turn off* - stop the energy flow, switch off


Eg: Your mother wants you to turn the TV off and come for dinner.

*2. Phrasal Verbs with “look”*

*look forward* - be excited about the future


Eg: I'm looking forward to the Christmas break.

*look after* - take care of


Eg: I have to look after my sick grandmother.

*3. Phrasal Verbs with “break”*

*break down* - stop functioning (vehicle, machine)


Eg: Our car broke down at the side of the highway.

*break up* - end a relationship


Eg: My boyfriend and I broke up before I moved to America.

*4. Phrasal Verbs with “bring”*

*bring down* - make unhappy


Eg: This sad music is bringing me down.

*bring up* - raise a child


Eg: My grandparents brought me up after my parents died.

*5. Phrasal Verbs with “give”*

*give away* - give something to somebody for free


Eg: The library was giving away old books on Friday.

*give up* - stop trying


Eg: My maths homework was too difficult so I gave up.
