1. A student carries out an experiment to find out the relationship between the change in
length, y, of a spring and mass, m, of the load on the spring. The arrangement of the
apparatus for the experiment is shown in Figure 1. The length of the spring when a load
is placed on the piston is l.
Seorang pelajar menjalankan satu eksperimen untuk mengkaji hubungan antara
perubaan panjang satu spring,y dan jisim beban,m.Susunan radas eksperimen ini
adalah seperti yang ditunjukkan pada Rajah1.Panjang spring semasa beban di atas

At the beginning of the experiment there is no load. The length of the spring is lo. The
actual length of lo is shown in Figure 2. The experiment is repeated by using loads with
mass, m, equal to 0.5 kg, 1.0 kg, 1.5 kg, 2.0 kg, 2.5 kg. The actual lengths of the spring

The jigsaw blade is displaced horizontally to one side and then released so that it
oscillates. The time for 10 oscillations, t1, is taken using a stop watch. The jigsaw blade
is oscillated again to obtain the time for 10 oscillations, t2, for the second time. The
actual readings of t1 and t2 are shown in Figure 1.2.
Bilah gergaji itu disesarkan secara mengufuk dan kemudiannya dilepaskan supaya
bergetar.Masa untuk 10 ayunan , t1 , dicatatkan dengan menggunakan jam randik . Bilah

The experiment is repeated by using plasticine balls with masses 20.0g , 30.0 g, 40.0 g
and 50.0 g. The readings of the stop watch are shown in Figures 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6.
Eksperimen itu diulangi dengan menggunakan ketulan plastisin yang berjisim 20.0g ,
30.0g , 40.0g , dan 50.0g .Bacaan pada jam randik ditunjukkan pada Rajah1.3 , 1.4 , 1.5
, dan 1.6.

3. A student carries out an experiment to study the relationship between the speed, v, of a
trolley with the distance of compression, e, of a spring that pushes the trolley down a
track.
Seorang pelajar menjalankan satu eksperimen untuk mengkaji hubungan antara laju , v ,
suatu troli dengan jarak mampatan , e , suatu spring yang menolak troli itu menuruni
landasan.
A piece of ticker tape is fixed to the trolley which is placed on a friction compensated
track. The trolley is pushed back to compress the spring to a distance of compression, e,
equal to 2.0 cm. as shown in Figure 1.1. The trolley is then released and it moves down
the track with speed v.
Satu jalur pita detik diletakkan pada suatu troli yang terletak di atas landasan yang
terpampas geseran . Troli itu ditolak ke belakang supaya soring itu termampat dengan
jarak mampatan , e , sebanyak 2.0cm , seperti ditunjukkan pada Rajah1.1 . Troli itu
kemudiannya dilepaskan supaya ia bergerak menuruni landasan dengan laju v .
A section of the ticker tape which represents the movement of the trolley when it
reached the end of the track, is taken. The actual size of the ticker tape is shown in
Figure 1.2 .
Satu keratin pita detik yang mewakili gerakan troli itu semasa sampai di hujung landasan
diambil .Saiz sebenar keratin pita detik itu ditunjukkan pada Rajah1.2.
The above procedure is repeated by varying the values of e, to be 30.0 cm, 40.0 cm,
50.0 cm and 60.0 cm. The actual sizes of the sections of the ticker tapes are shown in
Figures 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 respectively.
Prosedur di atas diulangi dengan mengubah nilai e , menjadi 3.0cm , 4.0cm , 5.0cm dan
6.0cm . Saiz sebenar keratin-keratan pita detik itu masing-masing ditunjukkan pada
Rajah 1.3 , 1.4 , 1.5 , dan 1.6.
The speed, v, when the trolley reached the end of the track can be calculated
using he formula below;
Laju , v , semasa troli itu sampai di hujung landasan boleh dihutung menggunakan
rumus di bawah;
where, x is length for 10 ticks as shown in Figure 1.7. One tick is the time taken for
the trolley to move between two consecutive dots.

4. Diagram (a) and Diagram (b) shows two fishermen that are rowing similar boats with the
same force.
The boat in Diagram (a) is fully loaded whereas the boat in Diagram (b) is not loaded.
It is found that the boat in Diagram (b) moves faster than the boat in Diagram (a) a while
after the fishermen begin to row.

(c) With the use of apparatus such as a trolley, ticker timer and other apparatus , describe
an experiment framework to investigate the hypothesis stated in 3 (b). In your
description, state clearly the following:

different masses.

6. Diagram (a) shows two wooden tops. One of the tops is partly coated with tin. Both tops
are the same size and are rotated with the same velocity.
