JUNE 1, 2017 - RESORTS WORLD

MANILA

For everyone who lives in the casino complex, the article describes one of the most
terrible and unforgettable incidents in Philippine history. This takes place across from Ninoy
Aquino International Airport-Terminal 3, which is located at Resorts World Manila, a complex
of hotels, restaurants, and stores that is the Philippines' first one-stop, non-stop
entertainment and tourism destination, featuring recreational thrills, world-class performances,
one-of-a-kind events, and exciting lifestyle options. Given that this day will go down in history
as the most traumatic experience of their lives.

The incident began shortly after midnight, when security footage revealed an
unidentified lone gunman clothed in black with an assault rifle. Mr. Dela Rosa characterized
him as white, around 6 feet tall, and fluent in English. Some officials suspected he was a
foreigner because he spoke English well and appeared to be Caucasian, but this was not
formally confirmed. He strolled up to the complex's entrance, ignoring the guard who tried to
question him and walking directly to the casino, a public area or building where gambling
games are played. First, he fired shots into the air and TV screens, not at people, because
Southern Police District Superintendent Tomas Apolinario stated that the injured and dead
have no gunshot wounds that are present in the body, but it caused fear; then stuffed a
backpack with gambling chips worth 113 million pesos; and finally, the gunman set the
gambling tables on fire by pouring a two-litre bottle of gasoline, Dela Rosa said. As a result,
scared crowds left the site, causing a stampede. The man then rushed to the complex's hotel
area, leaving behind the backpack, which was subsequently discovered in a toilet, and entered
a room. The cops first claimed to have surrounded the gunman in a hotel room. Unfortunately,
he murdered himself by lying down in bed, covering himself with a large blanket, reportedly
pouring gasoline on the blanket, burning himself, and then shooting himself with a gun
moments later. He was discovered dead at 7:00 a.m. local time.

More than 50 individuals were brought to hospitals with serious injuries, including
fractures, and 36 dead bodies were discovered when scouring the complex following the
recovery of the gunman's body. The stampede of the crowds; some even attempted to jump
off the second and third levels; and mainly suffocating in dense toxic smoke following the
blaze because he put petrol on furniture and rugs. The carpet in the room was flammable, as
were the tables.

The incident was not tied to terrorism. Despite a claim by the so-called Islamic State
(IS), officials claimed that the incident was more of a robbery attempt than a terrorist attack.
Authorities have also told reporters that the individual appeared to be "mentally disturbed."
According to Manila police chief Oscar Albayalde, it was just a simple heist carried out by a
deranged person. The casino shooting was described as a "cowardly act of a deranged mind"
by Resorts World Manila. An Islamic State-linked Filipino operative claimed Isis "soldiers" were
responsible for Friday's attack, but police maintained that the gunman was acting alone and
that no connection to the fighting in the south had been established.
My feelings for this article would be really apologetic to those who were gravely
harmed and especially to those who died as a result of someone else's folly. Imagine resting
quietly and looking forward to your day's activities, only to die in the middle of the night.
Those who died are more than simply numbers; they did not deserve to die in this way. It's
difficult to imagine those people's terror and anxiousness. I harbored some resentment for
the gunman since it was not worth taking many people's lives because of a failed robbery
attempt. His aim was to allegedly steal 113 million dollars in gaming chips, but instead he
committed suicide. We don't know what his true motives are, and that alone enraged me.
People do not deserve to die as a result of what he is doing, and it is extremely unfair in every
way. And I was perplexed by the guard, because why would he let an unknown guy to bring
an assault rifle inside? That type of weapon is not pocket-sized, and it is clearly apparent. Also,
does he have any conscience that his behavior is clearly suspicious when he clearly ignores
him when he attempts to question him? He could have just stopped the man, and the event
would have been plainly avoided. The guard is arguably the biggest issue here for me,
because his sole duty is to defend the casino and not let intruders in, but he obviously fails his
main goal of safeguarding the individuals inside the property.

The tragedy took place in a scene of unspeakable terror. Because of a malevolent

deed, hundreds of innocent individuals were suffocated and burned to death. Death is
unexpectedly terrifying because it will come to you regardless of the circumstances. That is
why we should cherish every moment of our lives since time is precious; love those around us
and always be kind.
