ELA Study Map Quarter 2

The Quarter 2 test in ELA will be based on the following two


stories: The Harvest Birds and the Kamishibai Man.

Vocabulary words:
Study the vocabulary words by referring to the stories
which were uploaded in Google classroom.

Comprehension:
The Harvest Birds

Folktales: Stories about a culture which often aims to teach a lesson.


Text based Questions:
1. Can you describe Juan Zanate?
He enjoys being outdoors. He wants his own land to farm on.
2. Beginning: Juan asks the rich man and his wife for a piece of land. They
laugh at him.
Middle: Grandpa Chon gave Juan the land. If Juan fails, he would
have to work for Grandpa Chon for the same amount of time he spent
working on his land.
End: Juan harvested an excellent crop and he could keep the land.
3. Lesson: Work hard to make your dreams come true.

Thinking skills:

 Can humans and animals be friends? Give a reason for your answer.
 Why did Grajo help Juan?
 Why were the blacksmith, baker and carpenter making fun of Juan?

Kamishibai Man
Realistic Fiction: Fictional story based on real events.
Text based questions:
1. Why has Jiichan been quiet?
He has been thinking about “going on his rounds.”

2. Why do you think Jiichan is not nervous about riding across the rickety
bridge?
The bridge is familiar, so he trusts it.
3. How does Jiichan recognize the neighborhood?
He sees the familiar noodle shop and he saw the old house he used to
cycle past.
