1-17. Describe the findings of Project Oxygen using the functions approach, Mintzberg’s
roles approach, and the skills approach.
Answer: According to my understanding of the functions method, organizations were created
around the functions and hierarchical levels. There is a form of rigid hierarchy of management in
place, with a distinct distribution of work responsibilities. For managers, the four fundamental
tasks of planning, organizing leading, and controlling should be carried out.
The fundamental functions that managers play in an organization are outlined by the Mintzberg
approach to roles. Ten major roles were identified namely, figurehead, leader, liaison, monitor,
disseminator, spokesperson, entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource allocator and negotiator.
Skills approach focuses on the belief that certain abilities, knowledge and skills that can be
learned or developed. When it comes to skills approach models there are three main skills needed
for leadership, these are technical, human and conceptual.
Google openly acknowledges the importance of managers' roles and responsibilities in achieving
the organization's long-term objectives. Google set up the definition of a great boss through the
Project Oxygen. Statistics were used to pinpoint the specific qualities and skills that the most
successful managers have. The same information was useful in understanding how the
company's managers might carry out their responsibilities successfully and what abilities they
possess.
Eight qualities stood out as "winners." When combined, these eight qualities made up the four
fundamental duties of a manager. Likewise, the Mintzberg's roles model contained these eight.
When Project Oxygen ranked the eight items by priority, the Skills method was discernible. The
rating was used by the business to teach and improve its management so they could do their jobs
more skillfully.

1-18. Are you surprised at what Google found out about “building a better boss?” Explain
your answer.
Answer: I am not surprised at what Google discovered regarding "creating a better boss". I
believe all of the qualities they discovered to help create a better boss were all excellent. It
should make managers more aware of what they need to do to support their staff. Also, it will
increase their effectiveness. Effective managers appear to have a closer bond with their staff
members, as proved by Successful managers and Effective managers. They are more attentive
and are better at leading than a successful manager. Successful managers are more concerned
with their own image and self-promotion than that of guiding their staff towards success. I think
Google managers can learn from effective managers to help them better their self and also their
employees.

1-19. What’s the difference between encouraging managers to be great managers and
knowing what being a great manager involves?
Answer: The difference between encouraging manager , great manager and knowing what is
involved is, In this the manager that needs to be encouraged may not care as much as a manager
that knows what’s already involved in being a great manager. A great manager should already
know how to motivate their employees, communicate well, tell your employees how much you
appreciate them, etc. When a manager has to be encouraged to be a great manager, in my
opinion, they shouldn’t even be a manager. If you are going to be a manager, you should know
what is expected of a manager role. A great manager must be aware of the functions, skills, and

roles that are necessary for success. Planning, organizing, leading, and controlling are among
these functions. Technical, interpersonal, and conceptual skills are all necessary to be a great
manager. The fundamental roles that a manager needs to have in order to be a great manager are
interpersonal roles, information roles, and decisional roles. Managers must have superior
management abilities if they want to motivate other managers to be great managers.

1-20. what could other companies learn from Google’s experiences?

Answer: There are several things that other companies can learn from Google experience. Other
companies can learn how to build a good boss in the company. Building a good boss is very
important because a good boss plays an important in dealing and controlling the business
activities. Therefore, through Google’s experience, companies can acknowledge more about
building of a good boss and learn the way or solution lead to a better boss. Besides that,
companies can learn the way to become a good coach. A good coaching is very important
because they provide guidance, support and a good coach also help to figure out the way of
creating the business. Hence, good coach can help the companies to understand what really
makes a business become successful. Therefore, through Google’s experience, companies can
help to better employee’s performance. I believe that by promoting a better work-life balance,
other companies may take inspiration from Google's successes. Many businesses don't care about
your life outside of work; they assume that work will take up all of your time. I also believe that
other businesses should study Google's Project Oxygen findings and apply such principles to
their management so that everyone has a better experience at work.

1-21.Would you want to work for a company like Google? Why or why not?
Answer: I want to work for a Google because working for a company like Google can be an
exciting and rewarding experience, in this way we can grow professionally and personally.
Google is a great corporation and has developed a reputation as a creative organization. As
Google is a large company with many opportunities for career growth. Working for the company
can open doors to new opportunities, both within Google and beyond.
