Valderrama's trauma over own goals and Escobar's

assassination

Valderrama, cannot forget the biggest tragedy in Colombian
football.

The former player who plays as a midfielder is still


traumatized by the drama of an own goal that led to the
murder of his former teammate, Andres Escobar.
Escobar died in a tragic event after the 1994 World Cup in the
United States. He was killed by being shot six times in front
of the El Indio nightclub on July 2, 1994.

In media reports in Colombia, the shooters reportedly


shouted 'Goal!' every time it fires a shot at him. Escobar was
immediately killed on the spot.

The murder was also suspected because of the anger of the


killers because of the own goal incident by the former
Colombia centre-back.
Escobar had indeed become the sharp spotlight of the
Colombian football public. The reason, he made an own goal
in the 35th minute against the United States in Group A of the
1994 World Cup.

Escobar tries to block the kick of Uncle Sam's team striker,


John Harckes. However, the ball that hit his feet instead
headed towards his own team's goal and conceded.
The goal gave the hosts the upper hand. The United States
also won 2-1 over Colombia.
