There should not be a required weight for models and influencers.

Having a required
weight causes people to starve themselves leading to Anorexia. Having a specific body type for
models affects how ordinary people see themselves as well as it's horrible for the model to have
to starve and not eat just to know they won't get fired.

Everyone has different body types. There shouldn't be one specific size that models are
expected to fit into. Models are forced to have a specific BMI that is impossible to achieve
without dramatic measures. Anorexia usually occurs when one fears gaining weight. Secondly,
one might want to lose an extreme amount of weight which causes them to starve themselves for
an extended period (MayoClinicStaff). Anorexia starts with one having bad thoughts about
themselves. If someone feels bad about their body they are going to want to change that and the
quickest way without anyone really knowing and the easiest, is starvation. Some people with
anorexia don't even know they have it.

Many females at a young age are affected by the look of models. Models are usually
pictured to have a “perfect body” that wants to be attained. Models don't become models for not
having a good body. When an ordinary person sees models who are shown to be perfect it affects
one's self-esteem.

Most models have been asked to lose weight or else they will be fired (Rittenhouse).
Around 40% of models have had anorexia in their modeling careers (Rittenhouse). In addition to
that, 62% of models have been told that they must lose weight to keep their job (Rittenhouse).
Additionally, many models take diet pills so they can achieve a low weight as it is thought to be
less time-consuming (Rittenhouse).

Anorexia can be severely deadly without help from a specialist, especially for pre-teens
and teens. Having anorexia at a young age can cause lifetime health issues. Many children are
influenced by models and other role models in one’s life. Anorexia is extremely harmful to
mental and physical health. For example, during a fashion show, there was a young woman who
had a heart attack because she had been suffering from anorexia for many years of her modeling
career (Infobase).

Alanis Morissette was one of the many celebrities who have struggled with anorexia for
many years. In an interview, she stated “We know with alcohol, you just don’t drink it and don’t
go to a bar. With heroin, you just don’t go near it. Whereas with food, you have to eat, so how
can one go from, in my case, bingeing and purging, starving, overeating, the scale going up and
down — how can I go from that to a ‘sober’ approach?” (Iasimone). She explains how difficult it
is to try to get a healthy relationship with food. This all occurred because of the pressure she had
to feel good about her body and didn’t appreciate her natural looks. Being famous and having
many people follow you and look up to you puts a lot of pressure on how you view yourself.
Most models and many average people constantly feel the need to pressure themselves on how
they look.

Most of the time, skinny models, are appreciated the most. Women find wearing a
bathing suit in public more intimidating when the “perfect body” is seen everywhere one goes.
For example, if a girl sees an outfit she loves being worn by a model she will want to look like
that as well. Most women don't have the same body type therefore when a girl doesn't look like
the model, she hates herself and her body possibly causing her to take drastic measures. "Fashion
is a mirror and many teenagers imitate what they see on the catwalk," said Concha Guerra
(InfoBase). It’s hard to look at a model or influencer who is liked by many and not wish that one
looked the exact same.

Anorexia is extremely common in kids, but it also does the most damage to them. Having
anorexia at a young age affects your organs for the rest of your life. (Standford) Many things
cause anorexia in children like social media, family, friends, and what your body looks like from
genetics (Standford). Children with anorexia often look at themselves as larger than their friends
or family (Smith).

Taylor Swift was one of the many celebrities who suffered from Anorexia. She was
mainly bulimic meaning she would eat a lot and then throw it up before she digested it fully
(Standford). Taylor Swift said sometimes when there was a negative comment or a horrible
picture of her posted it “trigger me not to just starve a little bit — to just stop eating”(Fishman).
Even the tiniest comment that could possibly be meant as a joke, can put someone's life on the
line.

In conclusion, there shouldn’t be a specific BMI for models because of the effect it has on
everyone all over the world.
