has restored electricity to some of the poorest communities by taking
advantage of the island’s abundant sun and other natural resources.
Jonathan Marvel was born in Puerto Rico, Jonathan is an architect and urban designer with more
than 30 years of experience providing architectural planning, community, economic and sustainable
development of public spaces, educational institutions, single-family and multi-family homes,
libraries, museums, and large-scale projects. and mixed-use developments.
Jonathan has led Marvel's efforts across myriad typologies, from urban housing to single-family
residences, from scratch-up theaters to adaptive repurposing performance spaces.
However, the company did more than simply install solar panels. They helped recruit and train
locals to install them, created a toolkit that communities can use to plan and finance new solar
hubs, and taught them how to set up water treatment systems that also run on solar energy.
The mission of Jonathan's project is to improve the lives of the residents of Puerto Rico by
increasing the capacity of communities to address their critical needs; increase local access to
knowledge, tools and resources; and promote equitable social and infrastructure systems.
