How to Write an Introduction

An introduction should include three things:


1. a hook to interest the reader,
2. some background on the topic so the reader can understand it,
3. and a thesis statement that clearly and quickly summarizes your main
point. 

Tips

1. Keep your first sentence short.


2. Don’t repeat the title.
3. Keep the introduction brief.
4. Use the word “you” at least once.
5. Dedicate 1-2 sentences to articulating what the article covers.
6. But ... be careful telling stories.
7. Use a stat or fact to convey importance.
 Present your topic and get the reader interested
 Provide background or summarize existing research
 Position your own approach
 Detail your specific research problem and problem statement
