Product description

Product description
EMC® Geographically Dispersed Disaster Restart (EMC GDDR) is a mainframe software
product that standardizes and automates business recovery following both planned
outages and unplanned disasters, including the total loss of a data center or both
data centers in a region. EMC GDDR achieves this goal by providing monitoring,
automation, and quality controls to the functionality of many EMC and third-party
hardware and software products required for business restart.

New features and changes


EMC GDDR V5.0 delivers the following new features and changes:
◆ Support for VMAX3™ Family systems, including support for 8-digit device
numbers and RDF group numbers
◆ Support for Mainframe Enablers version 8.0
◆ Support of TimeFinder SnapVX in GDDR scripts
◆ Support for the intermix of VMAX3 with SnapVX and older VMAX systems with
TimeFinder/Clone
◆ Ability to manage both Test and Gold copy BCV sets for consistency-protected
SRDF devices and for ADCOPY_DISK SRDF devices
◆ Updated GDDR utilities
◆ Accumulated maintenance and fixes

Environment and system requirements


Before you install EMC GDDR, make sure your VMAX system meets the requirements in
Table 1.

supports EMC GDDR V5.0.

Table 2 lists EMC GDDR hardware and software requirements. Before you install EMC
GDDR software, make sure your system meets these requirements.

1. EMC GDDR supports JES2 environments. Contact GDDRSolutionSupport@emc.com for JES3 support restrictions.

The minimum software prerequisites needed to run EMC GDDR V5.0 are:
◆ EMC Mainframe Enablers version 8.0 at Enginuity level 5876.268.174 (VMAX) or
HYPERMAX OS 5977 (VMAX3).

IMPORTANT
The Mainframe Enablers level listed above is the minimum level at the time this
document was published. In addition, EMC has extensively qualified EMC GDDR at
selected maintenance levels that apply to the software listed above. These specific
maintenance levels are required for use with EMC GDDR V5.0.

The EMC GDDR Service Notes describe any additional known problems or limitations
for EMC GDDR. You can download the Service Notes from Online Support. Keep in
mind that these Service Notes may be updated periodically.

These documents are available in EMC Online Support. As information is added, new
versions of the EMC GDDR documentation may be released. Check to ensure that you

Installation
The software installation procedure is provided in the EMC GDDR Product Guide.

Note: To open a service request through EMC Online Support, you must have a valid
support agreement. Contact your EMC sales representative for details about obtaining

To activate your entitlements and obtain your Symmetrix license files, visit the Service
Center on https://support.EMC.com, as directed on your License Authorization Code
(LAC) letter emailed to you.
