General Instructions:
i. This Question paper is divided into five sections-Section A, B, C, D and E.
ii. All questions are compulsory.
iii. Section-A: Question no. 1 to 5 are very short answer type questions of 2 marks each.
Answer to each question should not exceed 40 words.
iv. Section-B: Question no. 6 to 8 are short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks each.
Answer to each question should not exceed 80 words.
v. Section-C: Question no. 9 and 10 are long answer type questions, carrying 5 marks each.
Answer to each question should not exceed 120 words.
vi. Section-D: Question no. 11 and 12 are Case Based questions.
vii. Section-E: Question no. 13 is map based .Each question carry 1 mark.
viii. There is no overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has been
provided in a few questions. Only one of the choices in such questions have to be
attempted.
ix. In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each section and question, wherever
necessary.

Case Based Questions
11.Read the given text and answer the following questions:
There are variations not only in the form and types of precipitation but also in its amount and the
seasonal distribution. While precipitation is mostly in the form of snowfall in the upper parts of
Himalayas, it rains over the rest of the country. The annual precipitation varies from over 400 cm in
Meghalaya to less than 10 cm in Ladakh and western Rajasthan. Most parts of the country receives
rainfall from June to September. But some parts like Tamil Nadu coasts gets a large portion of its
rain during October and November. Coastal areas experience less contrasts in temperature
conditions. Seasonal contrasts are more in the interior of the country. There is decrease in rainfall
generally from east to west in the Northern Plains. These variations have given rise to variety in
lives of people- in terms of the food they eat, the clothes they wear and also the kind of houses they
live in.

The proportion of people below poverty line is also not same for all social groups and economic
categories in India. Social groups ,which are most vulnerable to poverty are scheduled caste and
scheduled tribe households. Similarly, among the economic groups, the most vulnerable groups are
the rural agricultural labour households and the urban casual labour households.Although the
average for people below poverty line for all groups in India is 22.The double disadvantage of
being a landless casual wage labour household in the socially disadvantaged social groups of the
scheduled caste or the scheduled tribe population highlights the seriousness of the problem. Apart
from these social groups, there is also inequality of incomes within a family. In poor families all
suffer, but some suffer
more than others. In some cases women, elderly people and female infants are denied equal access
to resources available to the family.
