GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS For security of people and good working of the fan, application of instructions contained in this manual is necessary. The manufacturer's guarantee would not be applied in this case of non respect of these instructions and of any utilisation of the fan in conditions which would rot be specified in the order. 1.1 SECURITY OF PEOPLE First start-up of the fan and further fe-startings can only be carried out after checking that no danger can be incurred by the staff present in the installation and particulary : + electrical checkings (rotation direction of motor, electrical insulation, connection of supervision and control instrumentation). « checking of aerodynamic circuits (absence of staff or of materials in the fan and in the circuits of inlet and outlet ductworks) + presence of mechanical securities ( protection guards of transmission, closing of access doors...) + authorisation of security of the fan Generally speaking, during rotation of the fan, no maintenance intervention is authorised except greasing of bearings. Opening of access doors during rotation is strictly forbidden 1.2 MECHANICAL SECURITY Except written authorisation of manufacturer, working of fan must be interrupted in following cases: overtaking of the maximum authorised vibratory level : « release » level. Overtaking of ‘alarm » level implies the stop of the fan as soon as possible in order to remedy cause of vibrations, * overtaking of maximum temperature of bearings. * overtaking of maximum temperature of transported fluid. The value of minimum fixing to be considered is about : « fixing 70 degrees for a guide vane «fixing 60 degrees for a damper ( 90° being the total closing). Note 1: The above indications can vary from one fan type to another and according 10 circuit ; any abnormal working of the fan (aerodynamic impulses, vibrations, noise) must be Pointed out to manufacturer. Note 2: Starting When starting must be made with the closed adjustment part to limit the absorbed power , this eriod must be as limited as possible. STORAGE OF IE FAN a. STORAGE BEFORE ASSEMBLY aad Instructions : « Ifpossible store the plate work in a sheltered area, Check the condition of the paintwork every month. Apply paint if necessary «Store the rotor in a sheltered area - this measure is compulsory, the area should be free from vibrations. The machined parts must receive a coat of vamish which can be peeled off later. Apply a coat of grease on the bearings, couplings and accessories in storage (see note) + When the equipment is stored for a long period before assembly, care should be taken to see that it is protected from inclement weather conditions and from accidental knocks With this in mind HOWDEN SIROCCO S.A. protects the mechanical parts by filli the fan bearings with grease. This grease will have to be removed and replaced before commissioning. + When the equipment is stored for a long period, it is absolutely essential to change this protection every 3 months. Furthermore, it is strongly recommended that the moving parts be rotated every three months. 7.2. STORAGE AFTER ASSEMBLY Check the condition of the paintwork every month. Apply paint if necessary. Fill the bearings with grease Alfalub LGMT 2 (every 3 months) * Rotate the rotor by hand once every month at least so as to distribute the lubricating liquid in the bearings. INSPECTION WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT BEFORE ASSEMBLY INSPECTION OF THE EQUIPMENT BEFORE PUTTING INTO OPERATION «Cheek the fan base frame, motor and mechanical unit, whether they be integrant of the fan or not «Check all the not been dama: tic and dynamic parts to see that the equipment and its accessories have d during transport or handling operations. + During prolonged storage of the equipment before assembly, see that it is protected from inclement weather and accidental knocks. Check the height and horizontality again, if need be adjust the packing. Each holding down bolt presents the configuration given in Diagram 8. The sealing and filling concrete can be poured in after the final adjustment of the plate work and pre-lining up has been carried out. Whether the equipment has been sent fully assembled or in separate parts, follow the assembly and adjustment procedure of the mechanical clearances given hereafter. INSTALLATION OF THE LOWER PART OF THE CASING lace the lower half of the casing on the foundation, taking care to present the fixing holes in front of the corresponding anchor bars, using packing shim (steel plate approximately 75 X50) on either side of each bar and under the casing, adjust the height of the casing * Seal the anchor bars in their holes. NOTE : When installing the impeller unit, hub, shaft in the bearing housings, great care must te taken to see that the base frame is correctly anchored, that the bearing covers are saficiently tightened before taking it of the wedges or the support used for installation 9.7 LINING-UP OF THE ROTOR AND BEARINGS OF THE SUCTION EYE AND THE CASING/COVER * Adjust the casing so that * the casing side walls are parallel with rotary direction of the impeller, * the permitted distance between the casing side-bar and the impeller centre sheet (see arrangement drawing) is respected. Combine both methods given above to obtain ‘ustment in a vertical and a horizontal position. iy * 97VI345.DOC Page 24 HOWDEN SIROCCO Concentricity adjustment must fall within 0 and 0,05 mm. In order to carry out this adjustment work, packers must be used, thicknesses : 0.05 - 0.10 - 0.15 mm. If packing work must be relatively thick, say approximately 3 mm. for example, use a 2 to 3mm. packer and finish off with a thin shim. A good example of a shim is shown in the diagram 15 below. If it has not moved, there is no need to change to change the packing. ifthe lning-up has changed after final tightening of the bolts, look for the cause and correct it as follows progressively unloosen one of the bolts. All are made of special steels igitha low carbon content and high tensile steel, chosen according to their weldability and their good adaptation to the special conditions under which the fan must operate 4s The impeller has been dynamically balanced in the works. The masses which had to be aided in order to achieve balancing have been welded onto the impeller. 12.2 Maintenance : General «+ Periodically check, especially during the first weeks following start-up, that the locking of the impeller on the shaft is correct. « All the surfaces and angles of the impeller must be constantly in a clean condition and a metal brush must be used to remove scales. + If wear appears on any part of the impeller, a detailed analysis should be carried out immediately and arrangements made for a visit from a HOWDEN SIROCCO S.A. technician, * Particular care should be taken to check these points during the first weeks after start-up. In the event that the type of gases handled or operating conditions should accelerate wear of the impeller, this will be particularly noticed on the extrados of the blades as well as the leading or tailing edges. When wear is first noticed, one must very closely follow up its evolution by checking every 200 or 300 hours (10 days) so as to be forewarned before any possible premature ‘wear which could make the impeller irreparable and therefore unusable After checking up has been made, balancing will have to be carried out again, this will take Place on the site using portable equipment which our technician will bring with him. Its direct position is defined on the arrangement drawing ; the tolerances specified for the clearance between the casing and the impeller must be strictly adhered to. 1232 Maintenance : * Periodically inspect and clean * Check that there is no abnormal abrasion taking place, especially in a specific place. If necessary reinforce using metal. * lthere are wear plates on the casing, check that the assembly bolts are sufficiently locked.
