A BILL
To repeal the provision of law that provides automatic pay
adjustments for Members of Congress.

1 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

2 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
3 SECTION 1. ELIMINATION OF AUTOMATIC PAY ADJUST-

4 MENTS FOR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.

5 (a) IN GENERAL.—Paragraph (2) of section 601(a)

6 of the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1946 (2 U.S.C.
7 4501) is repealed.
8 (b) TECHNICAL AND CONFORMING AMENDMENTS.—
9 Section 601(a) of such Act (2 U.S.C. 4501) is amended—

1 (1) by striking ‘‘(a)(1)’’ and inserting ‘‘(a)’’;
2 (2) by redesignating subparagraphs (A), (B),
3 and (C) as paragraphs (1), (2), and (3), respectively;
4 and
5 (3) by striking ‘‘as adjusted by paragraph (2)
6 of this subsection’’ and inserting ‘‘adjusted as pro-
7 vided by law’’.
8 (c) EFFECTIVE DATE.—This section and the amend-
9 ments made by this section shall take effect on the date
10 on which the 119th Congress convenes.
