Program of NEWCA workshop

The first French-Dominican workshop within the framework of the International Research
Project (IRP) entitled New 2D allotropes of carbon" (NEWCA) will take place in Santo Domingo,
Dominican Republic, from May 29 to 30, 2023, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y
Maestra, Santo Domingo campus.

The NEWCA project aims to master the synthesis of (1) new 2D materials based on the
conversion of sp2-carbon (graphene) into sp3-carbon (diamanoids) by hydrogenation at low
temperature, and (2) unique nanotube-supported conical morphologies obtained by CVD
deposition of sp2-carbon. For its second year of existence, the IRP NEWCA is organizing this 2-
day workshop mostly focused on the help that computational work (modeling, numerical
experiments) can bring regarding synthesizing the targeted carbon micro-nano-structures,
understanding the formation mechanisms, predicting the properties and processing devices.

Non-IRP members, both students and researchers, interested in these topics are welcome to
attend. Physical presence is preferred and encouraged, however, a hybrid meeting mode will be
set up.

The program is provided on the next page.

If you are not an IRP NEWCA member but are interested to attend, please, send an email to
Fabrice Piazza (fpiazza@pucmm.edu.do) and Pascal Puech (pascal.puech@cemes.fr) before the
19th of May. Complimentary lunches and coffee-breaks will be provided.
Monday, 29th of May (time slot durations are indicative, they will be adjusted later on)
