In what ways did the large black majority face discrimination under Apartheid

Laws?

They were discriminated in many ways. They had separated public services such as
schools or transports, interracial marriage was banned, they couldnt have business or
live in white areas, also there were many people that didn’t have citizenship, living as
aliens in their own land.

What happened in 1960?  How did black people react?

In 1960 there was a peaceful protest than ended in a massacre from the police to
protesters, in Sharpville. 69 people died.

When did the Apartheid Establishment crumble?

It crumbled after Nelson Mandela was set free on 1990.

When was Nelson Mandela elected President of South Africa?

1994, four years later after he was walked to freedom.

How long did black people live under Apartheid Laws.

from 1948 until the early 1990s.

He was a lawyer.

Why and where was he sent to prison? For how long?

He was arrested and charged with conspiracy to overthrow the government. He was sent
to Robben Island, a top security prison in Cape Town´s Table Bay. He was in prision for
27 years.

In May 1994.

Why was he such an important leader?


Because his campaign endured oppression with such little rancor or overcome the
oppressor with such little bloodshed.
