Editor's note

Upright is delighted to share A Dance For Midnight by Philip G

Anderson, a stunning miniature taken from a forthcoming album that
has been delayed by the Coronavirus. Philip grew up in Virginia,
studied music production at Elon University and now lives in
Georgia. He has released music on lots of Upright’s favourite record
labels including Sonder House, 1631 Recordings, Bigo & Twigetti.
His music has been used on Fox, CNN, CBS, Discovery and NBC,
he’s soundtracked several feature length documentaries and he’s
written music for video games and live dance performance. While we
wait for his next album to come out it’s well worth checking out his
gorgeous 2019 album Wilderness, as it features not only 10 stunning
tracks but beautiful photography and video taken with
cinematographer / photographer Grant Boutiette.

Upright is irregularly produced and makes no pro7t. All the
composers involved have donated their music for free and any pro7ts
go to E8ective Altruism Funds, a charitable organisation that collects
donations and passes them on to wherever the money would do the
most good to the greatest number of people. There's more info about
E8ective Altruism and how you can get involved in Upright after the
score. If you've paid for this PDF then thank you. I will post
fundraising updates on social media and on our Bandcamp mailing
list. Thanks for reading.

What we do with your money
All pro7ts from sales of Upright are passed directly to E8ective
Altruism Funds, a charitable organisation that collects donations and
passes them on to wherever the money would do the most good to the
greatest number of people: recent large donations were made to a
charity that 7ghts malaria and an organisation working to reduce
malnutrition. The best thing about E8ective Altruism Funds is that
they can swiftly react to a changing world, so if a crisis develops (think
Coronavirus!) you can count on them to be thinking about how best
to help us get through it.
You can 7nd out more about the philosophy of E8ective Altruism here
and more detail about how E8ective Altruism Funds uses your
donation here.
You’ll probably have noticed the “all pro7ts” above. Upright uses two
internet platforms to provide essential infrastructure to enable you to
get the sheet music and each of these platforms takes a small
percentage of your donation. The two platforms are Bandcamp and
PayPal. You can read about Bandcamp’s fees here and PayPal’s fees
here. As of March 2020 83.9% of donations went to charity, 10% went
to Bandcamp and 6.1% went to PayPal. You may decide that you
would prefer to donate directly to E8ective Altruism Funds and
download Upright for free: we approve of this! Here’s a donation link.
Getting involved
You can help Upright raise money for E8ective Altruism Funds by:
• telling people about it
• performing the pieces and telling your audience about it
• if you are a piano teacher, teaching the pieces to your students
• sharing it on social media
• sharing our social media posts
• sharing your own performance of one of the pieces.
If you tag @UprightEditions we will share your work

You can help shape future editions of Upright by:

• suggesting what pieces you would like to see in future editions
• telling composers you like that they should get involved
• submitting your own music to be considered for a later edition
of Upright. To do this, please send:
◦ a PDF of the score
◦ an XML of the score
◦ a WAV of the recording
to uprighteditions@gmail.com.
