Hungarian wedding

Among Hungarian events that roots deeply from our family and society traditions, wedding is the most
important one. All tiny villages have separate yet similar ceremonies and some traditions became
heritage over the years.

In general, spring is the season which the event takes place in because of its ideal nature. It is
considered the “season of rebirth” because of the quantity of flowers and other stunning and colorful
plant sprouts. It also provides natural places for the event with picturesque sights, which can be seen
because of the clear, refreshing weather.

The wedding has three mayor parts usually following each other. The religious ceremony is usually
planned for months and most of the couple’s family members are present. The fiancé’s father in law
leads his daughter to the priest who blesses them and add up the betrothed. They put a ring on each
other’s ring finger symbolizing the marriage between the two.

There is an official engagement ceremony at the town hall to sign the agreements and to make the
wedding legit. It requires only the two witnesses, and the couple itself but it can be held in a fancy, cozy
ceremonial room which has an extra fee. It is usually decorated flawlessly and some other family
member and close friends are present too.

The final part is called lakodalom and takes place from the late evening till midnight. This is usually held
in a restaurant in a village or in the city. A variety of food, multiple dishes with vine are served. The “just
married young” have the first dance followed by the wedding party. Not only the dishes make this part
unique, but also the atmosphere created by the party.

In conclusion, those who have present on all three parts think that the lakodalom is by far the most
enjoyable. If you ever get invited to one of this delightful event, you must not miss the opportunity to
experience a true Hungarian wedding.
