SINGULAR NOUN:

A noun that names one person, place,


animal or thing is called a singular
noun.

PLURAL NOUN:
A noun that names more than one
person, place, animal or thing is called
plural noun.

 Add : es to nouns that end in ch, sh, o,


s, ss, x and z to get their plural forms.
 EXAMPLES:

 Some words ending in O take only S in its plural form. Eg:


Piano – Pianos
 Nouns that end in a consonant followed by Y change into
plural form by changing Y to I and then adding ES. Eg: City
– Cities, Country – Countries, Monkey – Monkeys.
 Nouns that end in a vowel followed by Y change into plural
form by adding – S. Eg: Key – Keys
 To form the plural of a noun that ends in F or FE – we
replace the F or FE with – VES. Eg: Leaf – leaves, wife –
wives.

 Some nouns have the same form in singular and plural.


 Eg:

SHEEP
DEER

COLLECTIVE NOUNS:
Collective nouns refer to a set or group of persons, animals or things.
Eg: Crowd of people.
Flock of sheep. Herd of cows. Pack of dogs.

 ABSTRACT NOUNS:
 Abstract noun refers to qualities of a person, place,
animal or thing which you cannot see, feel, touch, smell
or taste. You can only experience them.
 Eg: ANGER, LOVE, SADNESS, KINDNESS,
FRIENDSHIP, HATRED, ETC.
