Lesson Plan (Formation and Structure of The Earth)
Lesson Plan (Formation and Structure of The Earth)
I. Objective:
With the use of a PowerPoint Presentation and supplemental materials that help
visualize the topic being tackled, the students should be able to:
2. Discuss how the moon was formed according to the Big Impact Theory.
II. Content
B. The internal structure of the Earth, as well as the structure of its atmosphere.
III. Procedure
4. Hand over a sheet of paper to be passed around in the class for the checking of
attendance.
1. Engage
Show a picture of the Earth from when it was a ball of fire, from when it underwent
an ice age, as well as the present-day Earth. Then, let the students process the images.
2. Why do you think the habitable and homely planet that we live on today went
through extreme states back then?
2. Explore
Let the students observe everything around them – from the ground that they tread
upon to the air that they breathe. Let them ponder and process where they are in the moment.
Their thoughts and findings will then be communicated to the class.
3. Explain
Discuss the formation and structure of the Earth using a PowerPoint Presentation and
other materials to supplement the discussion. Such supplementary materials include the use
of a basin that is filled with water and fine sand, stirred gently, to demonstrate an accretion
disk, as well as exhibit the behavior of a protoplanetary disk. In addition to that, clay is also
used to visualize the planet-building process.
Moreover, the layers of the atmosphere and their features will also be tackled using
images.
4. Elaborate
Correct misconceptions and let them refine their understanding of the topic through an
oral recitation.
5. Evaluate
Conduct a short quiz that will be answered using a ½ sheet of yellow paper.
3-6. What are the four (4) stages of the Earth’s formation?
7-10. What are the four (4) major internal layers of the Earth? Give a feature
of
each one.
11-15. What are the five (5) layers of that atmosphere. Give a feature of each
layer.
