How to Avoid Phishing Emails

A phishing attack usually comes in the form of a message meant to convince you
to:

 Click on a link.
 Open a document.
 Install software on your computer.
 Enter your username and password into a website that’s made to look
legitimate.
 Claim there’s a problem with your account or your payment information.
 Offer you a coupon for free stuff.

Beware of Suspicious Emails:

 Be very suspicious of any emails you receive from trusted entities like your
bank.
 If the email contains a link, don't click on it.
 Deceptive links that mimic legitimate URL addresses are a common tools
con artists use in phishing scams.
 While these addresses may look official, they contain some links which are
from the attacker website.
 Instead of clicking on the link, type in the web address of the
institution/bank to access the website.

When you recognize a phishing message, delete the email message from your
Inbox, and then empty it from the deleted items folder.
