The Future’s past

To me this statement invokes an emotion of urgency when really it is not needed

at all.
This excerpt may also create a feeling of discovery and realization of our world
and our place and role inside of it.
The quote may also represents a slight feeling of timelessness and bizzare and
almost incomprehensible nature of it.
It may also convey a senstion of how we can know so much and yet so little.
You could say it could give you a feeling of powerlessness as you do not posess
the ability to completely understand or be able to change the present but you can
look back on what will happen and try to change it what might happen.

Was life like that? You could gaze into the future or back into the past but
the present moved too quickly to absorb. Maybe sometimes, not today.

Artist’s statement:
To me the future’s past represents powerlessness and timelessness as the
past has already happened and you can recall it and you can predict the
future (though not always well) but you advance and are collecting and
responding to so many things in the present creating so many different
possible futures at once that it is impossible to respond properly and collect
all information at once. My picture of the raging river represents time it
passes so quickly and also branch off into many other rivers or possible
futures in the sense of time as you can decide what to do in your life you
can decide which stream to follow even though you cannot stop. My picture
of the roadside sign is more of a literal representation of the quote as you
have the ability to really look into the future. The picture of the cars
represent the inability to stop after making your decisions (kind of like the
river and yet it is faster adding to the sense that the present is too difficult
to understand and remember because like the car you are advancing at
great speeds and covering huge amounts of distance, just like in real life.
To me the road and the river are interconnected analogies. My final image
is that of the sandman disappearing into the hourglass.It represents our
inability to absorb or remember the events of the present as they dissapear
almost instantly. This is an exact reflection of the image as the man will be
lost to time like our present, our memories and eventually, us.
