The Educative Process

30 April 2023

If I had to plan a lesson to address one of the standards, I identified in week 7, I would

focus my teaching on the law No Child Left Behind. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) represents a

change in focus within federal education policies. NCLB is extremely important to learn about

because it is directed at every child and teacher, not just specific groups of children and teachers.

If I were to teach a lesson about NCLB, I would begin with a student’s perception of what NCLB

is to them or what they think NCLB is. When it comes to understanding a topic, perception is an

important starting block for students. After asking students what they thought No Child Left

Behind was, I would teach them on the actual meaning and history of NCLB through a

PowerPoint presentation that uses text, pictures, and videos to emphasize the impact NCLB has

had while keeping students engaged. After I gathered a student’s perception and clarified any

questions or misunderstandings within NCLB using the PowerPoint presentation, I would

challenge their critical thinking through analysis. I would assign my students a one page

summary of an instance covered in recent media where NCLB was used to give a student or

students specific rights that were not originally given to them. I would have them summarize and

analyze the article they found so they can see how NCLB can enrich a student’s education. After

my students completed their analysis assignment, I would offer class time to reflect on what they

have learned. I would hold an open discussion with the entire class the day after I concluded my

lesson on NCLB. I believe that if a student is able to hold a conversation and answer questions

about a topic after a twenty four hour period, then they will not only strengthen their

understanding of the topic, but also strengthen their memory. For synthesis and action, I would

assign my students a two to four page paper. My assignment would be a research based essay

that challenges the student’s ability to write about the topic at length. While understanding the

surface meaning of NCLB can be simple, understanding all of its benefits and how it has helped

the field of education would not only deepen a students understanding of the topic, but also

strengthen their understanding of how impactful and important NCLB is to education.
