Verso Socks

Verso sock pattern is designed to have different toe decreases for left and right foot. Verso is Finnish, meaning a sprout . Yarn One skein of Vuorelman Veto (85% wool, 15% polyamide; 100 g / 260 m) or any other yarn that fits the gauge (e.g. Gjestal Maija) Gauge 26 sts and 34 rows in stockinette = 10 cm Needles Set of 4 double pointed needles, 2,5 mm or suitable to obtain the gauge Size To fit an average woman foot. s Length of the leg and instep can be adjusted by the number of stitch pattern repeats. Heel flap can be started at any row of the stitch pattern; toe can be started either half way or at the end of the stitch pattern.

Instructions
Cuff CO 56 sts. Distribute sts between three needles as follows: 19 sts on needle 1, 20 sts on needle 2 and 17 sts on needle 3. Join to begin working in the round, being careful not to twist. K1, p2, *k2, p2*, repeat * - * altogether 13 times, k1. Repeat the established pattern altogether 8 rounds. Slip the first 9 sts on needle 2 onto needle 1. Slip the first 4 sts on needle 2 onto needle 2. Leg Work sts on needle 1 of the first sock according to chart A1 rows 1-10 once. After that, repeat chart A1 rows 3-10 four times or as long as leg is of desired length. Work the established ribbing on needles 2 and 3.

Heel Work sts on needle 1 according to appropriate row of chart A1. Slip sts on needle 3 onto needle 2 and work heel flap with these sts: work established ribbing back and forth for 24 rows, slipping the first st of each row. Proceed to French heel decreases as follows: Row 1 [RS]: sl1, k15, ssk, k1, turn work Row 2 [WS]: sl1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn work Row 3 [RS]: sl1, k6, ssk, k1, turn work Row 4 [WS]: sl1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn work Row 5 [RS]: sl1, k8, ssk, k1, turn work Row 6 [WS]: sl1, p9, p2tog, p1, turn work Row 7 [RS]: sl1, k10, ssk, k1, turn work Row 8 [WS]: sl1, p11, p2tog, p1, turn work Row 9 [RS]: sl1, k12, ssk, k1, turn work Row 10 [WS]: sl1, p13, p2tog, p1, turn work Row 11 [RS]: sl1, k14, ssk, turn work Row 12 [WS]: sl1, p14, p2 tog, turn work (16 sts remaining) Gusset Using a free needle pick up 12 sts along the right hand side of the heel flap and knit 8 sts of the heel (= 20 sts). Using another needle pick up 12 sts along the left hand side of the heel flap, slip the last 8 sts of the heel onto the same needle and knit all sts (= 20 sts). Next round: Work according to the chart A1 on needle 1 and knit the sts on needles 2 and 3. Work according to the chart on needle 1. Ssk and knit on needle 2. Knit to last 2 sts on needle 3, k2tog. Work the next round without decreases: sts on needle 1 are worked according to chart A1, sts on needles 2 and 3 are knitted. Repeat these two rounds until 14 sts remain on needles 2 and 3. Instep Stitches on needles 2 and 3 are worked in stockinette and on needle 1 according to the chart A1 until foot measures approximately 5 cm less than the desired length and you have just worked row 6 or 10 of chart A1. Toe If you just worked chart A1 row 10, start toe on needle 1 according to chart B1 (= left foot sock). If you just worked chart A1 row 6, start toe on needle 1 according to chart B2 (= right foot sock). While working according to chart B1 on needle 1, work [ssk and knit] on needle 2 and knit on needle 3 in rounds 1 and 3. Work in stockinette on needles 2 and 3 in rounds 2 and 4. Then work [ssk and knit] on needle 2 and [knit to last 2 sts, k2tog] on needle 3 five times in odd rounds (5, 7, 9, 11 and 13) while working in stockinette on needles 2 and 3 in even rounds, and then in every round until you have finished chart B1 (= 8 sts remaining). Break yarn and pull through the sts to fasten.

While working according to chart B2 on needle 1, knit on needle 2 and [knit to last 2 sts, k2tog] on needle 3 in rounds 1 and 3. Work in stockinette on needles 2 and 3 in rounds 2 and 4. Then work [ssk and knit] on needle 2 and [knit to last 2 sts, k2tog] on needle 3 five times in odd rounds (5, 7, 9, 11 and 13) while working in stockinette on needles 2 and 3 in even rounds, and then in every round until you have finished B2 chart (= 8 sts remaining). Break yarn and pull through the sts to fasten. Work the second sock in similar fashion but use chart A2 in leg and instep. Proceed to toe when you have last worked the same row as in the first sock. If you just worked chart A2 row 6, start toe on needle 1 according to chart B1 (= left foot sock). If you just worked chart A2 row 10, start toe on needle 1 according to chart B2 (= right foot sock). Work sole decreases as described in the first sock depending on the chosen chart B. Block if you want. Weave in ends.
