GALLAB
Workshop and carpentry in the Gallaratese district

GALLAB is a creative workshop and neighbourhood


carpentry shop born from a civic crowdfunding initiative

the reuse and recycling of materials and objects, and
the production of furniture and items to keep for oneself
or to use as street furniture.

GALLAB

GALLAB's areas of focus include:


• carpentry,
• ceramics and
• urban horticulture.
Instruments and tools of the trade are made available
to all members, both during hours when the space is
being freely used and during courses.

GALLAB promotes the theme of sustainability and


reuse while, at the same time, playing an important
social function - contributing to the redevelopment of
the suburbs and to the active involvement of the
whole community.

LNDC Animal Protection
Italian protectionist association

Non-profit organisation that promotes the work of women detained in Italian prisons

The non-profit Officina Creativa - with its social brands


Made in Carcere (Jail), 2nd Chance and Social Tailoring MORE INFO
from the Suburbs - has been promoting the work of
women detained in Italian prisons for over twelve
years.

MADE IN CARCERE (JAIL)
Non-profit organisation that promotes the work of women detained in Italian prisons
🖊️ THE PROJECT

“MADE IN CARCERE - Sewing Workshops”

In the maximum-security prison of Lecce Borgo San Nicola at the Women's Prison of Trani,
and recently in Matera - the initiative aims to produce ethical gadgets and fashion
accessories in general: all made with recycled fabrics, collected from various Italian textile
companies, specifically thanks to the Consorzio mare di Moda.

FONDAZIONE DIAMANTE
A social enterprise that promotes social and professional integration to disabled people.

The purpose of Fondazione Diamante is to implement


work and housing proposals for disabled people.

CREAKIDS BY DIBBER
A nursery promoting the essence of the Norwegian Curriculum in Middle East.
📍Al Barsha South – Middle East

Located in the heart of Al Barsha South, this nursery accepts children from 45 days to 4
years of age.
It can count on an excellent range of facilities that really promotes the essence of the
Norwegian Curriculum. Consisting of 13 classrooms, this branch also has a children’s
kitchen, gym, multipurpose hall and splash pool. The spacious classrooms allow children
the freedom to be independent learners and all classes have access to an outdoor
classroom.

An association promoting the art of reuse and eco design in the cultural and creative world.

An association promoting the art of reuse and eco design in the cultural and creative world.

A space at the service of artists and designers, dedicated to the recovery and reuse of materials.

A space at the service of artists and designers, dedicated to the recovery and reuse of materials.

The materials are collected, processed and finally displayed for sale to the public at prices
that take into account their qualities and characteristics. They are divided by typology
according to their technical characteristics. In addition to these activities, META supports
different forms of creativity and opens its space to design – organizing training sessions,
laboratories and workshops carried out in collaboration with artists and designers
dedicated to the practice of reuse practices and carried out in collaboration with artists
and designers.

Besides associations and non-profit organizations we collaborate as well with Universities


and Colleges that are usually really keen to re-use the materials donated by brands.

From the donated materials can born creative projects (see the Dys-cycling one in the
Case Histories section of this presentation) but they can also be used by Fashion Design
professors while teaching or by the students as an aid for their activities.

GALLAB’S FIRST IDEA
A BOOKSHELF FOR CDD APPENNINI

CDD Appennini is a day care centre located in Milan that helps


provide services and support to people with disabilities.

THE PROJECT
The project proposed by Gallab consists in building a bookshelf cabinet with the
dismissed panels coming from the windows displays.
The bookshelf cabinet will be internally illuminated by LED lights.
The bookshelf will be then donated to the CDD Appennini centre.

GALLAB’S FIRST IDEA
A BOOKSHELF FOR CDD APPENNINI

BUILDING A BOOKSHELF CABINET TO FURNISH


THE CDD APPENNINI CENTRE.
The idea is to build a bookshelf cabinet with recycled materials through easy and low
environmental impact processes.
The platforms and the panels will be transformed by minimizing at its greatest the
typologies of manufacturings. The bookshelf will be finally assembled only with
mechanical fixings, with the need of any adhesives.
The LED strip lights will be used to light up the shelves.
The bookshelf will be assembled on site.

• BRUSHED LAMINATE SHEETS + MDF (always present in equal amounts)


Use: Construction of the bookshelf structure, shelves and uprights:
approx. 33sqm (60%) of Brushed Laminate Sheets + 33sqm (60%) MDF

GALLAB’S SECOND IDEA
CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

CDD Appennini is a day care centre located in Milan that

THE PROJECT
The project proposed by Gallab consists in realizing with the guys of the CDD
Christmast decorations (such as Christmas balls, Christmas trees, etc…).
The decorations will be then donated to the CDD itself or to other
neighborhood associations.

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

The aim of this project consists in teaching the CDD's guys


artisan techniques, giving them the possibility to craft objects
that will be used or in the CDD itself or to other neighborhood
associations.

• The materials intended for the upcycling projects come from the FENDI’s stores in Milan, Florence and
Rome (total of 12 windows displays).
• The numbers listed above are an approximation and may be subject to a slight variation.
• The upcycling projects will be realized in collaboration with GALLAB; the outputs will be donated to
non-profit associations.
• The remaining materials cannot be recycled. They will be disposed of accordingly to the current
regulations and on the basis of the materials’ typology.

A NEW LIFE FOR LOEWE’S CACTUSES
FROM WINDOWS DISPLAYS TO… PRISON!

LOEWE decided to donate the cactuses used in their Paula’s Ibiza collection windows displays to
Made in Carcere and the association planted them in the maximum-security prison of Lecce Borgo
San Nicola.

Louis Vuitton decided to donate the LEGO bricks used in their Christmas windows displays to
Fondazione Diamante in Switzerland and to The Children’s Hospital in UK.

LOEWE DONATES A TREE TO A NURSERY
FROM WINDOWS DISPLAYS TO… CHILDREN!

Loewe donated a tree belonging to a previous retail set-up to CreaKids by Dibber, a nursery located
in Al Barsha (Middle East) in order to decorate the exterior of the building.
