Americanized and Traditional Filipino Language and Clothing

Research Problem
At this time, the main goal of the United States in the Philippines was to turn the country into a
self-sufficient capitalistic democracy. The U.S. did this by creating infrastructure that would improve the
literacy and economy of the country. As a result, literacy doubled to about half by the 1930's and a
fourth of the educated population could speak English. This was a massive influence for the Filipino
culture, as English became the dominate language alongside the official Filipino language of Tagalog. The
Untied States did not focus on religion like Spain did, but they helped create religious freedom for the
people of the Philippines. They also created influence for a government and educational system for the
Philippines throughout their rule. As time went on an technology improved, the Americans brought
influence to clothing and food to the Philippines as well. The biggest influence that can be seen today is
found in the Philippine government and economic system. Throughout American rule in the 20th
century, the main goal was to bring democratic and capitalistic ideas to the Philippines, and they did so
successfully. It wasn't seen right away and the government still varies from nationalist to federalist as
history goes on, but the influence of American ideas are still there.

Statement of the Problem

What are the American traditions in terms of language and clothing that is existing in today’s
generation?

What impact do these changes in language and clothing have on the way the citizens live?

What will the people do to revive and preserve the traditional Filipino way of speaking and dressing?

Rationale
To preserve Filipino language and clothing in each individual, especially because we all have
different perspectives on the American way of life and the persistence of fashion in various locations. As
a result, we seek to preserve lost Filipino customs. Avoid mimicking other people’s way of speaking and
dressing (the American way). As a result, the researchers seek to resurrect the almost dying traditional
filipino language and clothing, particularly profound ones. A term with which we are no longer
acquainted.
Significance
Today’s Filipino customs, traditions, and values are affected by a number of these factors:

Form of governments

Clothing

Objective
The aim of this study is to conserve Filipino customs in each individual, especially since we all
have diverse views on the American way of life and the persistence of fashion in various locales. Thus,
what the researchers seek is the continuation of lost Filipino customs. The first is that they wish to go
back to the old customs, particularly with “PAGMAMANO” the elderly. The second is how they can avoid
copying others’ habits, including their voice, mannerisms, or lifestyle. Thus, thay seek to revive ancient
beliefs, particularly the profound ones. A word with which we are no longer familiar. This is the aim the
researchers are aiming for.
