A. Readings/Discussions
The Media and Information Literacy (MIL) students should evaluate the living museum,
electronic portfolio, and creative media and they shall produce a creative manipulative-based
presentation.
A living museum, also known as a living history museum, is a type of museum which
recreates historical settings to simulate a past time period, providing visitors with
an experiential interpretation of history.[1] It is a type of museum that recreates to the fullest
extent conditions of a culture, natural environment or historical period, in an example of living
history.
An electronic portfolio (also known as a digital portfolio, online portfolio, e-portfolio, e-
folio, or eFolio)[1] is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user,
usually on the Web. Such electronic evidence may include input text, electronic files,
images, multimedia, blog entries, and hyperlinks. E-portfolios are both demonstrations of the
user's abilities and platforms for self-expression. If they are online, users can maintain them
dynamically over time.
One can regard an e-portfolio as a type of learning record that provides actual
evidence of achievement. Learning records are closely related to the learning plan, an
emerging tool which individuals, teams, communities of interest, and organizations use to
manage learning.[citation needed] To the extent that a personal learning environment captures and
displays a learning record, it may also operate as an electronic portfolio.
E-portfolios, like traditional portfolios, can facilitate students' reflection on their own
learning, leading to more awareness of learning strategies and needs. [2] Comparative
research by M. van Wesel and A. Prop between paper-based portfolios and electronic
portfolios in the same setting tentatively suggests that use of an electronic portfolio may lead
to better learning outcomes.[3]
Then, Creative Multimedia is to promote technological literacy in the area of new
media. Creative Multimedia education prepares individuals to meet personal needs, provides
an awareness of the variety of careers, and lays the foundation for lifelong learning. It can
1
serve as a vocational preparation for a career in the new media industry, mastery of basic
skills for related media occupations, or a foundation for a post-secondary education as stated
in the Creative Multimedia 801A Curriculum Guide of the Prince Edward Island Department of
Education (2005).

8. It should enhance efficiency. The tools of electronic design include templates, styles, and
palettes, all of which may be shared between documents. (Templates are “empty”
documents containing pre-determined margins and column layouts. Styles permit the
designer to pre-select typeface, type size, line spacing etc. before working on a
document. Palettes permit the creator to pre-choose colours and tints)
A publication may be subject to critical analysis in the use of the basic features of a
desktop publishing and/or graphics software would include precisely placing and manipulating
text, insert graphics, borders, and fill in accordance with design principles, appropriate graphics,
appropriate file formats, font type/size/colour, appropriate background, space, correct grammar,
and effective communication. The evaluator and producer of creative media information should
value awareness of the audience and adherence to “appropriateness” in such areas as
multiculturalism, gender neutrality, language and content. (e.g. slang phrases and terminology,
offensive content, sexism or racism)
