Interpretationof RT PCR COVID19

1. CoVID-19 PCR Positive
.Confims SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA detected.
Low CT values indicate high viral load with acute infection
High CT values indicate low viral loads seen in recovery phase.
Symptomatic patients should be evaluated clinically for possible hospital admission regardless of CT
value.
Asymptomatic patients considered non- infectious >=14 days from first PCR or if CT>30.
For Mild Symptomatic/Asymptomatic patientsmonitoring for viral clearance not required.
2. CoVID-19 PCR Negative
Indicates SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA NOT detected and excludes a diagnosis of COVID-19.
For routine screening for example pre-surgery, this indicates negative Non-COVID disease
f highly suspected COVID-19 based on clinical,radiological and laboratory, a follow-up sample
should be tested as deemed appropriate by the attending physician.
3. COVID-19 PCR Inconclusive
For highly suspected patient with clinical &radiological finding, orfor persons being tested following
contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19; or being tested as part of an outbreak-then an
inconclusive PCR resutt should be repeated after 24 hours by attending physician
.For follow-up of confirmed COVID Case with resolved symptoms, inconclusive result will be
interpreted as negative.
For routine asymptomatic patient for example pre-surgery, inconclusive result should be interpreted
as negative.
For routine screening of asymptomatic patients for air travel an inconclusive result should be
interpreted as negative.
4. COVID-19 PCR Reactive (CT>30)
.CT>30 in asymptomatic patients screened e.g. pre-surgery or as part of routine surveillance,
