Installation Procedure:

 
Creation of Database:
1. Create a database in Oracle configuration assistant.
2. Select option UNICODE in character mode while creating database.
 
Cognos Installation:
1. Install Server
2. Install Modeling (With all Yes)
 
Cognos Configuration:
1. Open "ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib" directory.
2. And also open "CRN_LOCATION/webapps/p2pd/WEB-INF/lib" directory.
3. CRN_LOCATION is the directory where Cognos installed.
4. copy classes12.jar for Oracle 10g OR classes12.zip for Oracle 8, 9i to
CRN_LOCATION/webapps/p2pd/WEB-INF/lib" directory.
5. Rename the above file to classes12.jar.
6. Open Cognos configuration.
7. Delete Content Store which is under Data Access -> Content Manager ->
Content Store.
8. Create a new content Store in content Manager with following:
  a. Name : Content Store
  b. Type: Oracle Database
9. After creating Content Store follow the below steps:
  a. Click on User ID and Password and Click at the end button which is very
small.
  b. Give user ID and Password.
  c. Service Name = "Database Name"
10. Right click on Content Store and click on test.
 
IIS Server Installation:
1. Place the Windows XP Professional CD-Rom into your CD-Rom Drive.
2. Open 'Add/Remove Windows Components' found in 'Add/Remove Programs'
3. in the 'Control Panel'.
4. Place a tick in the check box for 'Internet Information Services (IIS)' leaving
all
5. the default installation settings intact.
6. The 'Internet Information Services' console can be found in the
'Administration Tools' in the 'Control Panel' under 'Performance and
Maintenance', if you do not have the control panel in Classic View.
7. Open your IIS webserver, and Create
8. a) Virtual directory name it crn and point it to \program files\cognos\
webcontent (give read and write rights)
b) Create  a virtual directory cgi-bin under crn directory and point it to \
program files\cognos\cgi-bin (give it exec rights)
c) Create a virtual directory help under the crn directory and point it to \
program files\cognos\webcontent\document( give read and write rights)
9. open your internet browser and type http://localhost/crn
10. Cognos Connection Screen should come Up.
