History - Band-Aids were invented in 1920 by Johnson & Johnson employee Earle Dickson.

Motivated by his wife's frequent burns and cuts in the kitchen, he devised a practical solution for her.
To create a prototype bandage, he sandwiched sterile gauze between two strips of adhesive tape.
Once Johnson & Johnson recognized the product's potential, they began producing and selling the
bandages under the brand name Band-Aid. Although the bandages were primarily marketed towards
hospitals and doctors, they soon gained popularity among the general public. This invention
represented a significant advancement in wound treatment, introducing a portable and easy-to-use
remedy for minor injuries.

Description - "Band-Aids" are tiny, rectangular, adhesive bandages that are applied to
minor burns, scratches, and wounds. Its three components are a non-stick pad,
adhesive tape, and a backing with antibacterial properties. By soaking up any fluids that
may seep from the incision, the non-stick pad keeps the region dry and clean. The
adhesive side of the sticky tape attaches to the skin on each side of the cut and
prevents it from sticking to anything before use.

Significance - The invention of Band-Aids in the 1920s was a significant achievement for
Canadians since it provided an accessible treatment for minor cuts and wounds. People
had to make due with difficult materials like cloth or sticky tape in the past, which were
prone to falling off or being contaminated. But thanks to the development of Band-Aids,
people now have access to a compact, portable, and straightforward-to-apply solution
that allows them to go about their daily lives without being hindered from minor injuries.
