Introduction To Lean
Lean offers a structured methodology that maximises value for the
customer through the elimination of waste from an organisation's activities.
Lean is the perfect business model for a company who is goal driven and
seeks to eliminate waste from their workplace.
The elimination of waste is a key underlying
principle of Lean. Waste is defined as “any
activity which does not add value to the product
or service provided for the customer”. The 8

PRODUCTION
Inventory: only store a practical amount of inventory,
otherwise you risk wasting valuable warehouse space
and even theft.
Motion: arrange your production center in a way that
will remove the need for staff or products having to
move across the factory unnecessarily.
Waiting: plan your processes to minimise wait
and maximise productivity.
‘Over Production: only make the numbers you need,
otherwise you are putting resources into stock that
will just sit on a shelf.
‘Over Processing: adding unnecessary steps to
processes is a waste of your time and resources, only
do what’s needed.
Defects: refine your processes to minimise the
number of faulty outputs.
Skills: your employees are skilled people, let them
show you what they are capable of.

Key Principles of the PIT Process:
1. The meeting must take place in the area where the work is done
ie. where the value is added.
Pre-determined factors will be reviewed to assess current
performance, deal with issues and provide targets to strive
towards.
Allissues affecting production are to be identified.
The leader must determine the corrective measures that can be
used.
The leader should look for feedback and suggestions from team
