GRADING SYSTEM AND ACADEMIC RETENTION POLICY
A. GRADING SYSTEM. The performance of students shall be rated at the end of each
semester in accordance with the following system:

Only the foregoing grades shall be officially recognized. The percentage ratings
shall be computed based on a zero-based scoring system rather than transmuted scores.
The faculty member is given the academic freedom to determine the weights for each
criterion or component of the grade, provided that the assigned weights are within the
following ranges:
Long Exams and Quizzes 15% - 30%
Mid-Term Examinations 20% -30% |
Final Examinations 30% - 40%
Assignments 5% - 10%
Performance Tests 5% = 20%
Projects 5% - 10%
Recitation/ Class Participation 5% - 15%

B, ACADEMIC RETENTION POLICY FOR COLLEGE OF TEACHER
EDUCATION STUDENTS ENROLLED IN BACHELOR OF ELEMENTARY
EDUCATION AND BACHELOR OF SECONDARY EDUCATION
As approved by the PSU Board of Regents during its 131" Meeting on March 3,
2006 in its Resolution No.27 s2006, the following minimum grades shall be required of
BEEd and BSEd students effective 1* Semester, SY 2006-2007:
1, For 1* Year and 2™ Year Level
a. 2.25 is the minimum general weighted average (GWA) to continue as a regular
student for the succeeding semester
b. A student shall be on probation (to be granted only once during his/her entire
stay at the College of Teacher Education) status if his/her GWA is between 2.26 to 2.50
c. A student will not be allowed to continue in the program if his/her GWA is
lower than 2.51
d. A student who gets a GWA lower than 2.25 during the semester that he/she is
‘on probation may not be allowed to continue enrolment in the program during the
succeeding semester.
2. For 3" Year Level
a. 2.25 is the entry GWA (computed based on all academic subjects taken during
the I and 2™ years) for 3" year level
b. 2.5 is the minimum GWA to continue as a regular student for the succeeding
semester
c. A student shall be on probation if his/her GWA at the end of first semester
ranges from 2.51 to 2.60.
d_A student who is on probation is required to earn a GWA of at least 2.50 in
order to be allowed to continue in the program. Otherwise, he/she may no longer
continue and will be advised to shift course.
3. For 4" year Level
2.5 is the entry GWA (computed based on all academic subjects taken during the
3% year) for fourth year level. A student whose GWA is lower than 2.5 will not be
allowed to continue in the program.
4. For All Levels
a. Aside from complying with the minimum required GWA at every year level,
students should earn credits (ie., get grades of 3.0 or better) in at least 75% of their
enrolled units as of the last day for late enrolment in order to be considered in “good
academic standing” and approved for enrolment.
. Subjects for which grades eamed are “AW” (authorized withdrawal); UW
(unauthorized withdrawal), “Inc” (Incomplete); “4”; or “5”, as of the time of enrolment,
cannot be considered for credit
