Basics of Astrology
(Lesson - 1 Session – 2)
• The initial idea was conceived by his friends the Late R. Gopalakrishna Rao and Late N.V. Raghava Chary
• They explored using stellar astrology methods to interpret the birth chart.
• However, Professor Krishnamurthy went one step further than his friends.
• He then backed up his theories with research.
• The result of his work is the KP system of astrology.
• It is very popular and has gained a reputation for great accuracy.
• It is particularly good at giving accurate yes and no answers as well as being better at the timing of events.
The 12 Bhavas – The Placiduous System
• The Great Philosopher and Astrology Guru Professor Krishnamurthy
• At the time of birth and from the place of birth, if the child looks at the east horizon direction, that point in the Zodiac-
belt is called his “lagna starting point”.
• As the earth is continuously moving the lagna point also is moving. So every minute of time a child is born his lagna point
will be different from the child born in the previous minute.
• With the starting point as Lagna (1st Bhava), the remaining bhavas for that child are derived and these are called 2nd
Bhava, 3rd Bhava, 4th Bhava, 5th Bhava, 6th Bhava, 6th Bhava, 6th Bhava, 7th Bhava, 8th Bhava, 9th Bhava, 10th Bhava, 11th
Bhava and 12th Bhava.
• Due to development in computational technology, there are software that can give us the starting point of lagan as well
as the other 11 bhava of the horoscope. The English meaning of "bhava" is "action".
Embedding Bhava Chart into Rasi House
Chart of Kalachkara
• The distinguishing feature
of Bhavas from Rasi Houses
• Kalachakra has 12 houses
as per Time Wheel and is
fixed and same for all
persons
• Bhava Chart is dynamic and
is different for different
persons
Meaning of 12 Bhavas in human life
• Several events happen in human life relating to personal life or relating to the external world
• When human is born there is a purpose allocated to him
• Human behaves differently under different settings or situations or environments
• When a child is born, first breath happens and we hear the cry (the voice of the child)
• The child has a mother, father, brothers and sisters, so he has a family.
• At that time birth the person behaves as a child in a family. So the person acts (also called as Bahava) a child.
• Then the child grows and started communicating with the environment and so the child act as communicator
• Child grows and go to school/college for education – act as a student
• Then get job – act as employee or business man
• Then accumulate wealth – earn income, wealth
• Then get married – act as husband or wife
• Then become a parent – act as mother or father
• Then get into trouble or problems – sorrow and sufferings
• Then become high status in society – act as head of a company or IAS officer – act at high level in Profession
• Then make friendship – act as a friend
• Then do some secret activities – act as a hidden person
• So a person behaves differently at different point of time and so our ancestors have developed 12 groups of bhavas and put all the actions in these 12
Bhavas
The 12 Bhavas – The Placidus System
• For a child born at exactly 4 am in the
morning typical bhava positions in the Zodiac
belt is given in the zodiac belt on right hand
side picture.
• Notice that diagonally opposite bhava
starting point for bhava 1 is bhava 7, and so
on so forth
• Initially Vedic astrology allocated 2 equal 30
degrees to each bhava
• But Professor Krishnamurthy followed the
Placidus un-equal division of 12 bhavas in
the Zodiac belt.
• That means some time two bhava starting
points will lie in the same Rasi.
The 12 Bhavas – The Placiduous System
• For a child born at exactly 4 am in the morning typical bhava
positions in the Zodiac belt is given below
• Initially Vedic astrology allocated 2 equal 30 degrees to each bhava
• But Professor Krishnamurthy followed the un-equal division of 12
bhavas in the Zodiac belt.
• In many horoscopes you will notice that two bhavas are owned by
same lord.
• Example in the chart 1 on right hand side 2nd bhava and 11th bhava are owned by Rasi
Lord Mercury
• 6th bhava and 7th bhava are owned by Rasi Lord Saturn
• 5th bhava and 8th bhava are owned by the rasi lord Jupiter
• 4th and 9th Bhavas are owned by Mars
• 10th and 3rd Bhava are owned by Venus
• Of course 1 is owned by Sun and 12 is owned by Moon
• In some charts, two bhava starting points will lie in the same Rasi.
• Example in the chart 2 on right hand side bhava 1 and 12 are owned in Jupiter and are
located in Dhanusu Rasi
• Also 6 and 7 are owned by Mercury in Mithuna Rasi
• If 2 bhavas are in one Rasi then always their opposite Bhavas are also in one Rasi (some
other Rasi)
• Diagonally Opposite bhava of 1 is 7
• Diagonally Opposite bhava of 12 is 6
KP Golden Rules
• KP System is very easy, probably easiest among all the systems that exists today
• It is best suited for today’s busy human who do not have time to learn and apply in his own life
• As information technology has boomed in modern world every one can easily learn this apply for their own life
• It has only 5 principles and once you understood these five principles, you can predict almost all events of
your life. Here are those five rules
The Bhava Table (Typical)
The Planet Table (Typical)
KP Significators (Typical)
• Both Bhava and Planets have significators
• Bhava Significators are the planets that signify this Bhava
• Planet Significators are the bhavas that the planet signify
• Rules for finding significators of Bhava
• Planet which is the “Rasi lord of that Bhava”
• Planet which are in the star of the “Rasi lord that bhava”
• Planets which are deposited in that Bhava
• see example in the tables
KP Significators (Typical)

planet signify
• Rules for finding significators of planets

• Bhava where that planet is placed
• Bhava where the star lord of that planet is placed
