Walk Through

The Quest for Truth

by Crisanto A. Daing

Truth. This is maybe one of the words that people tend to claim they
have. They would tell you, “Yes, I know what truth is” or “What is the truth in
that?” Yet do they really understand the meaning of the word truth? For me,
to think, act and speak truth, one must first seek truth. Seeking for truth is
definitely not an easy journey. It demands one’s persistence, determination,
hardwork, and humility in order to find it. We seek for truth because we want
to find things out, little or big, about how much impact they would affect our
existence. We seek for truth because we want to understand all aspects of the
reality, including our being.

Yet, in our quest for truth, certain circumstances try to hinder us from
finding it. These hindrances appear to be the way on finding and knowing the
truth. Hence, we sometimes go out of our comfort zone because a
commitment for searching for truth entails understanding not only the things
around us and everything that we already knew, but it means understanding
things even beyond human understanding.
We, people, speak for truth because we believe in maintaining our
human culture, the culture of honesty and integrity. We always want to know
the truth, for we are convinced that the truth will always set us free. However,
there are some tendencies that hamper us from seeking for truth and doing is
based on the truth.

Plagiarism, intellectual piracy, fortunate telling, horoscope, numerology,

to name a few, are some concerns that obstruct us in our search for truth. These
practices momentarily provide man with answers to their questions,
convictions to their beliefs and persuasion to their way of thinking. However,
the answers they get do not and never guarantee them of genuine answers
to their quest. These circumstances directly ruin man’s search for truth.
