2. Arrange the event listed below which led to the inauguration of the Christian faith and identify supporting
passages from the new testament bible that account for it.

Initiating Events: - Event 1: The Baptism of Jesus

Scriptural Accounts:

- Matthew 3:13-17
( Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him,
saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for it is
proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented.)

- Mark 1:9-11
(9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was
coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a
voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”)

-Luke 3:21 - 22
(21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened
22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my
Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”)

- John 1:29-34
(29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of
the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was
before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be
revealed to Israel.” 32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and
remain on him. 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The
man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I have
seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”)

- Event 2: Public Ministry (Preaching, Performing of Signs and Wonders)

Scriptural Accounts:

- Matthew 4:23-25
(Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and
healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people
brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those
having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. 25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis,[a] Jerusalem,
Judea, and the region across the Jordan followed him)

- Mark 1:14-15
(14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has
come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”)

- Luke 4:14-15
(14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole
countryside. 15 He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.)

- John 2:1-11
(2 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples
had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more
wine.” 4 “Woman,[a] why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the
servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial
washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b] 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so
they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize
where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom
aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had
too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of
the signs through which he revealed his glory and his disciples believed in him.)

- Event 3: The Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus

Scriptural Accounts: - Matthew 26-28

(The Plot Against Jesus26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2 “As
you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.

”Jesus Anointed at Bethany6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman
came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was
reclining at the table.

”Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief
priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out
for him thirty pieces of silver.

The Last Supper17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and
asked, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”18 He replied, “Go into
the city to a certain man and tell him, `The Teacher says: My appointed time is near.

`” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.

21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.
”22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, “Surely you don`t mean me, Lord?”23
Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.

”26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to
his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.

Jesus Predicts Peter`s Denial31 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of
me, for it is written:“`I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

”34 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three
times.

Gethsemane36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit
here while I go over there and pray.

”42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away
unless I drink it, may your will be done.

44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.)

- Mark 14-16

(Jesus Anointed at Bethany 14 Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two
days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and
kill him. 6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. ” 10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief
priests to betray Jesus to them. The Last Supper 12 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread,
when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus` disciples asked him, “Where do you want
us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” 13 So he sent two of his disciples, telling
them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. ” 16 The disciples left, went into
the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. 18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he
said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me. ” 22 While they were eating,
Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it;
this is my body. Jesus Predicts Peter`s Denial 27 “You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written:
“`I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered. ” 29 Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I will
not. ” 30 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice[e] you
yourself will disown me three times. Gethsemane 32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus
said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? ” 39 Once more he
went away and prayed the same thing. 41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping
and resting? Here comes my betrayer!” Jesus Arrested 43 Just as he was speaking, Judas, one of the
Twelve, appeared. ” 45 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him.)

- Luke 22-24
( Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus 22 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was
approaching, 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of
Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the
temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 8 Jesus sent Peter and John, saying,
“Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover. Follow him to the house that he enters, 11 and say
to the owner of the house, `The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover
with my disciples?` 12 He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. 14 When the hour came,
Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this
Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the
kingdom of God. ” 35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you
lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered. Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives 39 Jesus went out as usual
to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. ” Jesus Arrested 47 While he was still speaking a
crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He
approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a
kiss?” 49 When Jesus` followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with
our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. 51 But
Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man`s ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to
the chief priests.

- John 18-20
(3 So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief
priests and the Pharisees. 4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked
them, “Who is it you want?” 5 “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. 7 Again he asked them, “Who is it you
want?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” they said. ”[a] 10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the
high priest`s servant, cutting off his right ear. Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” 12 Then
the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. Because this
disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest`s courtyard, 16 but Peter
had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke
to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in. 17 “You aren`t one of this man`s disciples too, are
you?” she asked Peter. ” 22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face.
Jesus Before Pilate 28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman
governor. 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”
30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you. 32 This took
place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die. What is it you have
done?” 36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. ” 37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. With this
he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 4 Once
more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you
know that I find no basis

- Event 4: The Great Commission and the Ascension

Scriptural Accounts:

- Matthew 28:16-20

(The Great Commission

16
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When
they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority
in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

- Mark 16:15-20
(15  He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16  Whoever believes and is
baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17  And these signs will accompany
those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18  they will pick
up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place
their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

19
After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of
God. 20  Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and
confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.)

- Luke 24:44-53

(44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is
written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

45
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is
written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the
forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are
witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until
you have been clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension of Jesus

50
When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While
he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 Then they worshiped him and
returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53 And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.)

- Acts 1:6-11

(6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the
kingdom to Israel?”

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own
authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in
Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

10
They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in
white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This
same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen
him go into heaven.”)

- Event 5: The Day of Pentecost

Scriptural Accounts:
- Acts 2:1-41

(The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the
blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They
saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them
were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they
heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language
being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it
that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of
Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[b] 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of
Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear
them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one
another, “What does this mean?”

13
Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

Peter Addresses the Crowd

14
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of
you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not
drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17
“‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
    and they will prophesy.
19
I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20
The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21
And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’[c]
22
“Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles,
wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was
handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men,
[d]
put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the
agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him:
“‘I saw the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
    I will not be shaken.
26
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest in hope,
27
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
you will not let your holy one see decay.
28
You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.’[e]
29
“Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is
here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would
place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of
the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has
raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received
from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did
not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,

“‘The Lord said to my Lord:

    “Sit at my right hand
35
until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”’[f]
36
“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and
Messiah.”

37
When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,
“Brothers, what shall we do?”

38
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness
of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and
for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

40
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt
generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to
their number that day.)
