aUnit 3: Self Management

Ch-1 What is self Management?

DEF.
Self-management is the ability to regulate one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviours and
taking charge of all aspects of life at physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual and
professional levels.

Impact of Self-Management
Self-management helps us to act intentionally (i.e ., with control over emotions) rather than
reactively (i.e ., reacting impulsively to a situation). It enables us to become aware of what
makes us tick, thereby helping us to take advantage of our emotions and becoming more
productive.
People, who practice self-management, are more organised in life and work, which means
they prioritise and plan their things, and are more prepared for the seen/ unseen situations in life
as well as work. They take responsibility and ownership of their actions. These traits make them
more desirable and dependable in all areas of their life and work.
In short, self-management impacts us in the form of these :
 It helps us have control over negative emotions, behaviours and habits.
 It helps us have control over our actions so that we do not act in impulse and develop good
habits.
 It helps us to be organised.
 It helps us take ownership of our efforts, actions and work. - It helps us to take up challenges and
achieve our goals.

further. Knowing our strengths enables us to aim higher and achieve much more. Our
weaknesses are the areas that may be holding us back, where we need to develop and build
ourselves. Understanding both our strengths and weaknesses can help us realise our real
potential.

Strengths are the qualities which oneis good at and weaknesses are the areas hold us back and
don't let us perform as our true potential.

Ch-3 Self- Confidence and Positive Thinking
How to Build Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem
A confident person is so sure of self that she/he believes in her/his decisions and actions. She/he
does not question herself/himself. Rather, a confident person:
-does what she/he believes is right, even if it's unpopular
-is willing to take risks
-admits their mistakes and learns from them
-is able to accept a compliment
-is optimistic.

DEF
Self-confidence is to like and ---respect ourselves and have a belief in our abilities and strengths.
Self-esteem is how much positive regard and self-love we have for ourselves.

Self-confidence and self-esteem do not happen by itself. It is about taking action to start
believing in oneself. It takes action and practice to create confidence. Self-confidence is gained
by doing things in spite of insecurities and fear of failure. Some tips to build self-confidence are :
 Achieve Goals. With accomplishments comes the self-confidence. So, set goal(s) for yourself,
plan things and achieve them.
 Build Self-Image. Confident people believe and respect their decisions. So believe in yourself
and carry yourself positively. Work on your confident outlook. Respect others whom you meet.
Ooze positivity. In short, build a positive self-image.
 Emphasize Strengths. Confident people do not compromise with their values and character in
their actions and decisions. Even when things are hard, they do not take shortcuts and maintain
their values, and it boosts their self-confidence and keeps them uplifted.
 Accept Failures Gracefully. Learn the art of accepting failures with grace. Every successful
person has achieved success after going through some failures.
 Take Risks. Don't be afraid to follow your heart. Even if people say things against it or things
seem difficult; if you believe in it, then go for it fearlessly - a trait of a confident person. :)
 See the Larger Perspective. Whenever you decide on impulse or make decisions for short term, it
may not give you results as you desire in the long-term, leading to unhappiness and
disappointments. On the contrary, if you make decisions with a calm and composed mind,
thinking about long-term goals and then making decisions (both short-term decisions and long-
term decisions) for achieving these, you will feel happy and confident.
 Don't be Bothered about What People Say. Believe in your decisions and work as per your value
systems, don't be bothered about negative comments or feedback of people. Simply ignore.
 Do Things that Make You Happy. Confident people always do things they enjoy, and that makes
them happy. They always take time to relax and take regular breaks from work.
 Help Others. Confident people are helping people too. They are always ready to help and uplift
others. They like to contribute to others' success also. They do all this while balancing their own
goals and achieving them along.

DEF
Positive thinking is a positive approach that looks towards life's challenges with a positive
outlook or finds positivity in everything happening around even if it appears as not so positive.
