Behaviour objectives: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: i. explain what are homophones and homographs and give examples ii. know the different meanings of homophones and homographs iii. improve their pronunciation of the words STAGES TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURE/ ACTIVITIES 1) Teacher greets the students. 2) Teacher recaps on previous grammar lesson, which is on consonant cluster and jazz chants. RATIONAL/ REMARKS
Respect
1) Teacher introduces the students to homophones (words with same pronunciation but have different meanings) 2) Teacher provides some examples of homophone. 3) Teacher distributes a handout (word search puzzle) to each student. 4) Students are provided with a list of words and they are assigned to search words in the puzzle with the same pronunciation. 5) Teacher allocates time for students to complete the task.
1) Teacher moves to another grammar item: homographs (words with same spelling but have different meanings and pronunciations) 2) Teacher provides some examples of homograph. 3) Teacher asks students to take out a piece of paper and draw a table of 5x5 grids. 4) Teacher lists down some definitions of homographs on the whiteboard. 5) Students fill in their table with the definitions in random orders. 6) Teacher plays the game Bingo with the students. 7) Teacher says out a few words and read sentences in which the words are used. 8) Students listen to the words and sentences. 9) Students search for the correct definition of the words and cross out the definitions/boxes. 10) The first student who gets five boxes crossed out in a line calls out and wins the game. 11) Teacher discusses the other definitions and provides examples.
