ITEM 12 : FTTH CABLE INSTALLATION
1.0 OBJECTIVE

This method statement provides information concerning the plant, equipment


and manpower and method of construction to ensure compliance with
contract requirements, drawings, technical specification and quality control
for this project.

2.0 SCOPE OF WORK

2.1 Delivery, installation of the cable and it’s associated ancillary


equipment as per the approved shop drawing.

2.2 Testing, commissioning and hand over of the site upon completion of
the installation with available site load.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

5.1 General

Mega M&E Sdn. Bhd. (MME) has formed a construction team, which will
oversee and monitor the execution of the project.

MME will have regular meetings on a weekly basis, and as required, to


ensure that the execution of the sub-contracting work is proceeding at the
rate required meeting the contract completion dates.

The day-to-day management of the contract will be headed by the Project


Manager who will be assisted by senior personnel. If the Project Manager at
any time considers it necessary to increase the supervisory staff for the
projects, he will report directly to the management committee enabling
prompt actions to the site requirements.

5.2 Co-Ordination

Logistics and coordination with other contractors are done at three levels:

 Formal coordination meetings chaired by the M&E Manager and


attended by all subcontractors.

 Day-to-day matters requiring subcontractor’s cooperation are resolved


between Construction Manager, M&E Manager and representatives of
the other subcontractors.

 It is the responsible of the subcontractor’s site agent to liaise with the


main contractor’s representative / R.E. / C.O.W. in all the aspect
regarding on site works.

 Should any matter remain unresolved then it will be referred to the


Project Manager.

6.0 HANDLING AND STORAGE OF MATERIALS

6.1 Proposed Material

6.2 Handling and Storage

Upon delivery to site, the cable and its ancillary equipment will be stored
indoors in a clean and ventilated area. The area shall be prevented from
unauthorized personnel entry and possible pilferage.

All materials will be handled in such a manner as not to damage the item
and hence its performance.

8.0 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

The FTTH Cable System installation can be divided into 2 stages as below: -
- Wiring installation from Pedestal to JB30 Manhole.
- Wiring installation from JB30 Manhole to Fiber Termination Box

8.1 Conduit & Wiring installation.

a) The installation of FTTH system begins with the Underground PVC Ducting
that have been install by others contractor. We only continue doing the
wiring installation works.

b) FTTH Cable are installed as per approved shop drawing. Installation of


FTTH Cable is as per the method statement for conduit wiring installation.

c) We use 1x2C FTTH Outdoor Drop Cable (Single Mode Telekom Approved)
to install from TELEKOM PEDESTAL to Each MANHOLE in front of
house.

d) This cable from Manhole will go to FIBER TERMINATION BOX of each


house and do splicing as per below: -

1) Put on the fusion splice protection sleeve.


2) Strip the fiber.
3) Cleave the fiber.
4) Put the fibers into the fiber holders in the fusion splicer.
5) Heat shrink the protection sleeve to protect the splicing joint.

8.2 Jointing/Splicing and Glanding & Termination

a) Ensure that cable glands, Fiber Optic cable jointing/splicing and termination
Kit are appropriate for the cables and equipment’s as per COMPANY
specification.

b) All jointing/splicing/termination shall be carried out by duly certified


technicians. (Suitable & well-ventilated work place should be provided for
every fiber optic cable joint / splicing

c) Phasing and continuity verification shall be carried out prior to


commencement of splicing works.

d) Jointing/ Splicing / Termination shall be carried out as per manufacturer’s


specification or recommendation

e) Suitable cable supports and cleating and anchoring shall be utilized

f) Only appropriate approved joint kit / termination kit shall be used. Any joints
shall be made as per manufacturer’s recommendations by using the
manufacturer’s jointing/termination kit and accessories.

g) A spare length of cable shall be provided on both sides of the cable prior to
cable jointing.

h) After jointing, seek approval from COMPANY via RFI

8.3 Visual Inspection Procedure

a) Check the conduit routing layout according to shop drawings.

b) Check correctness of the brand, model and type of conduit and fittings.

c) Check correctness of the location and mounting.

d) Check secure of installation.

e) Check the wire continuity testing

f) Check the rigidity of the bracket.

8.4 Fiber Optic Cable Testing

a) All Fiber Optic cable types shall be subjected to Optical Time Domain
Reflectometer (OTDR) Tests after finish installation/termination.

b) The surroundings of the testing area shall be cordoned off and the access
shall be restricted to the authorized personnel only.

c) Ensure that the test equipment shall be made available on the test area, with
a valid calibration stickers and certificates.

d) All duly filled in formats with test results shall be submitted to the concerned
authorities for approval.
