No: SCAWK 17051626/059/01 Rev- 01, dated 10 September 2018 Executive summary This report summarizes to disclose the outcome of the pilot treatability study, conducted by M/s Apisorelia (SCA) for the treatment of oil contaminated soil at Waste Processing Area (WPA) as part of the awarded Waste Management contract in KOC operational Area in West Kuwait fields. This study encompassed with the contract specification 1.2.1.1, intended to determine the most effective bioremediation methodology, for a full-scale implementation on the entire contract soil volume, to be treated during the period of the contract. Study also assessed the treatment efficiency in consideration with Risk Based Cleanup Levels (RBCL) and Remediation Stranded (RS) as prescribed in KOC.EV.007 - Management of soil and ground water protection. In coherence, a Bio-product for typical KOC soil contamination levels that coalesced to extreme climatic conditions were developed and tested by domiciled Romanian laboratory and pioneered successfully into this ‘approach. Regulatory approval for the product has been obtained from Kuwait Environment Public Authority (KEPA) and Minisitry of Health (MOH) vide letter Ref. HEMH S697 dated 10 Sep 2018, prior to the incitation. It was a great success and achievement as soll TPH levels were remediated to the compliance levels in short span. lot study, Study initiated an approximate quantity of 20 Cubic meters of hydrocarbon contaminated soil to kick start. Adhering to the protocol, thereby to further confirm contamination levels that match the criteria for qualification, source samples from scattered locations were collected to form one homogenous sample per KOC approved sampling and analysis protocol Doc. Ref. No. SCAWK. 17051626/059/01 Rev- 01, dated 10 September 2018. Activities were witnessed by the HSE (WK) team members and mobilized later to Energy Environment Company (EEC) KOC approved laboratory for kind testing analysis. This has revealed the concentration of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) range 82. 8 g/kg (8.28%) in the soil prescribed, being treated under pilot treatability study by SCA. In line with KOC HSEMS procedure and Apisorelia best soil remediation work practices, the treatment methodology was applied to the qualified soil above at WPA land farm Tunnels (Loc. No 1 & 2) on 10 December 2018. Rigorous monitoring was hence forth observed on the methodology application, and were overseen by back home experts at Romania. Periodic samples were taken for analysis to determine treatment efficiency during the period. Key test sample with TPH range concentrations are above tabulated as well annexed the lab reports for evidences proof. It may be noted that the application of bio-product was only once to the entire quantity soil, which is capable enough to provide satisfactory TPH degradation over the period of treatment. The optimal reaction and efficacy period of this method of treatment is between 5 and 10 days once applied. TPH stabilization is achieved after 10 days of treatment and it remains unchanged after cessation of humidification and aeration. It works far more efficiently at low temperatures (6-12 degrees C), however optimal at high temperature ranges from 30-55 degrees C. Required levels of humidity is inherently maintained with the conditions prevailing with the treatment areas. TPH, moisture and temperature ranges The initial color of the soil was black, when collected for treatment and it may remain roughly the same even after the treatment. This could be attributed to the kind residual hydrocarbons, tar fractions and finally heavy asphaltene, that exist within the contaminated soil as aromatic rings Page 20f3with a very large chain that excludes the scope of treatment by this contract. Apisorelia owns the technique of returning soil with native soil color. However, this will incur an increased cost that will bypass the contracted price. It may be emphasized here that color of the treated soil (Black / Dark) does not directly correlate to the presence of TPH concentration, rather presence of aromatic rings with a very large chain. This is a closed system and the leachate water generated can be reinjected back to the soil being treated at land fam tunnels. However, to confirm a sample has been collected from the generated water and lab tested for quality as part of the study. Sample results prove that the leachate water to the quality irrigation network and can be unloaded in case of any nonhazardous liquid waste. Conclusion We conclude that our pilot study at SCA WK has been a great success. TPH parameters were brought to the required level, even farther down in quick succession with this treatment methodology. TPH degradation ranges, moisture content and temperature levels are depicted in the plotted charts for references. It took less than a month to complete the entire process (10 Dec 2018 - 09 Jan 2019).
