1. Read and understand the Medical Act of 1959 and give your reaction or opinion.

The Republic Act No. 2382 or Medical Act of 1959 was made to regulate the medical
practice in the Philippines. It gave rise to the Board of Medical Education and made it as the
governing body of medical schools to build a standard and to ensure the quality of medical
graduates. Moreover, it regulates the quality of services and facilities of medical colleges so
that medical students will have the optimum education that will make them the best
physicians in the future.
This act also cited the requirements for the application in medical schools and board
examination. This ensures that aspiring medical students and incoming medical doctors,
respectively, are not only knowledgeable in their field but moral individuals as well. It also
mentioned the consequences of the illegal practice of medicine to ensure that all practicing
doctors in the country are qualified to not cause any harm to the patients.

2. Read the Hippocratic Oath and make a reaction paper of how it is practiced today.

The Hippocratic Oath is a pledge of those in the medical practice which serves as a
guide on how they should practice their field. When they are in the case of emergency or
medical need, they are expected to do their practice in accordance with this oath.
As of today, many doctors are still following this pledge while there are also some
who failed to do so. This is possibly because they prioritize their own gain rather than being
loyal to their profession. In addition, since the world is constantly changing, things also adapt
including the practice of medicine. For example, some countries have already legalized
abortion and euthanasia, so doctors are allowed to do these even though it is against the
Hippocratic Oath.
