How Does A Rainbow Form

A rainbow is an optical and meteorological phenomenon that causes a spectrum of light to

appear in the sky when the sun shines on droplets of water in the air. The colors of the
rainbow are red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet. The formation of a rainbow begins
when the sun’s rays hit a body of water droplets. These rays are reflected and refracted off the
surface of the droplets, causing them to spread out into a spectrum. The larger the water
droplets, the brighter the colors will be. Rainbows can be seen anywhere there is water and
sunlight, but they are most commonly seen after a rain shower. They can also form in mist,
dew, or spray. Rainbows are one of nature’s most beautiful creations!
