The State recognizes, regulates and guarantees the intellectual property acquired in
accordance with the law, the Decisions of the Andean Community Commission and the
international agreements in force in Ecuador.

The Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property (IEPI) is the Competent Administrative Body
to propitiate, promote, encourage, prevent, protect and defend on behalf of the Ecuadorian
State, the intellectual property rights recognized in this Law and in the treaties and
agreements international, without prejudice to civil and criminal actions on this matter must
be heard by the Judiciary. like

Patents

A patent will be granted for any invention, whether of products or procedures, in all fields of
technology, provided it is new, has an inventive level and is susceptible to industrial
application.
In order for SENADI to grant an invention patent or a utility model, 3 requirements must be
met: novelty, inventive level and industrial application. Industrial designs must comply only
with novelty.
